History comes to life at Mont Orgueil Castle, which for over 600 years...

History comes to life at Mont Orgueil Castle, which for over 600 years protected Jersey against French invasion. Explore the network of staircases, towers and secret rooms to discover hidden treasures.

Every time you visit you'll discover a staircase you've not seen before opening up into a room where you'll find something new. Discover Hidden artwork commissioned to tell the story of the castle; Climb the turrets to find the medieval ‘wheel', and descend into the cellar to experience the exhibit. Life-size wooden soldiers guard the castle from attack and 'the wounded man' statue shows the fate that could befall those fighting to save the castle from invasion.

With Castles, I'm more interested in the social history, as opposed to the structure, so purely personal preference wise - this wasn't as interesting as other castle might have been. But I could certainly understand why people love it! It's HUGE. You can easily get lost going up / down/ across the different parts of the castle. If you've got... More

You need to able bodied to fully enjoy this ancient fortress. It is a good stiff climb up many steps and steep sloping walkways to the top but the views from the top are well worth the effort. If you are interested in medieval architecture then you will be in heaven. There are information boards along the way, though some... More

We went here during a short stay on the island. Lynda D needs to check the opening times of attractions in order to avoid disappointment. The cost of admission is quite high especially as you do not receive any supporting plans/maps of the castle, but you could spend another £5 for a guide - what is the entrance fee for?... More

We had half a day here and thought that would be plenty of time but wish we'd gone after breakfast as there's so much to see and do. We joined in one of the guided tours which is well worth doing if you're interested in learning more of the history. There are interactive activities, artworks, videos to watch, dressing up... More

Thank you for your brilliant review of the Castle. We are delighted you enjoyed your visit. Thank you also for mentioning that everyone who visits helps to keep Jersey's heritage alive as entrance fees go back to helping Jersey Heritage. More

What a fabulous time we had, exploring this amazing castle with unparalleled views. It was so exciting, not knowing what would appear around the next corner or up the next flight of stairs. It was full of art works and carvings. I almost wish we had small children so we could run around and play at battles. It is available... More

Took a bus with great expectations of looking around the castle. What a waste of time, on arrival there was a total lack of information on how to reach the castle, and no one around to ask. On finding a possible entrance, the only find we made was a padlocked gate. Makes us wonder if jersey actually want tourists to... More

Thanks for taking the time to write on our review page. It sounds like you visited the castle when it was closed to the public. During the Winter (from November to March) we close the castle on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to do essential maintenance, then we re-open all day everyday from the end of March. All of the... Set in a lovely location by the harbour. This castle is build on a rock and is full of interesting history. The castle is well looked after and it has a medieval feeling. We had a very interesting young volunteer tour guide. Overall would definitely recommend it.

I would advise going on the bus as not much parking but bus sevice is very good. Staff helpful Informative video to start is a must to get history. Younger children will also enjoy. The only issue for older people are the stone stairs. As in some areas of the castle there are lots. Nice cafe with inside and outside... More

Bit of a hike up from the harbour and lots of steps once inside but well worth the effort. Loads to explore and interesting stuff around every corner. Possibly the best castle I have ever visited including Elizabeth Castle. Great views across to France on a Sunny November afternoon.
