Description: History comes to life at Mont Orgueil Castle, which for over 600 years...
History comes to life at Mont Orgueil Castle, which for over 600 years protected Jersey against French invasion. Explore the network of staircases, towers and secret rooms to discover hidden treasures. Every time you visit you'll discover a staircase you've not seen before opening up into a room where you'll find something new. Discover Hidden artwork commissioned to tell the story of the castle; Climb the turrets to find the medieval ‘wheel', and descend into the cellar to experience the exhibit. Life-size wooden soldiers guard the castle from attack and 'the wounded man' statue shows the fate that could befall those fighting to save the castle from invasion.

Superb castle overlooking the sea although unfurnished. Interesting displays and quirky artwork. Plenty to occupy half a day.

Be prepared to climb lots of steps and when you think you have reached the top, there are more. A labyrinth of rooms are connected by corridors and stairwells but no chance of getting lost. Fabulous views from all levels. Don't park in the car parks by the harbour but take the road up behind the castle where parking is... More

Thank you for your review. You certainly do need to be fit to climb all the stairs in the castle and enjoy all the hidden rooms. A good tip is to use the road behind the castle on the Castle Green for access as you suggest, but parking up there on the road can sometimes be difficult. More

My husband and I have visited many castles over the years but this one has to be the most impressive, uninhabited castle we have ever seen. It is a vast castle with lots of rooms off rooms, and stairs leading everywhere. Many of the rooms contain art work, or visual aids or even a man dressed up on the central... More

You cannot beat a review which starts - WOW. Thank you so much for your words. The castle is an amazing place and the whole trick is to walk up and down as many of those hidden staircases as you find. We hope that the day was clear enough that you saw France from the top of the castle, it's... More

Happily spent several hours meandering around the castle and the surrounding harbour and town. You must go down every step and into every room and through every arch or doorway otherwise you miss many of the secrets with which this castle abounds.

So much to see, history, works of art and amazing views! Really enjoyed the "living" history (real people re-enacting events)!

Our Living History team are amazing, they keep the story of Jersey's history alive and we have them at a number of our heritage attractions on the Island, from the midday gun at Elizabeth Castle to the Music at La Hougue Bie or the Hawk Flying at Mont Orgueil Castle. There is something different on almost every day. We are... More

Best castle to visit on Jersey, there are stunning views from the top over to Guernsey and the French coast. Well worth the climb. Some really interesting history too and great displays. There is s small friendly cafe were you can get a coffee or a snack or pop across the road to the Crab Shack for a fab lunch

This is an amazing castle, steps and stairs up and down lead you in and out of a maze of rooms holding art works and exhibitions. The reward if you keep on climbing up is the view from the roof, well worth the effort. Another reward for all of the exercise is a very nice slice of cake from the... More
