We recently visited the Rhumerie de Chamarel as part of the scenic south tour with White Sand Tours. The setting is beautiful and not at all what we expected. We had a tour of the site where we learnt about how the rum is produced, followed by lunch at the restaurant. The food and service was excellent! We ended the... More

You would imagine given the prices of the restaurant and the setting that the food would be top notch and come with service to match. This was the first time that I have ever given a tip of zero at a restaurant. We were waited on by multiple different people, none of which took responsibility for our table meaning that... More

Recently visited this site as part of the scenic south tour. We had an enjoyable lunch on arrival followed by a tour of the site. Our visit culminated in a rum tasting session. We sampled 8 of their different flavoured rums, you can also sample the flavoured marmalades that they produce. It's a lovely spot set in a scenic location.... More

It is not so much about rhum and its production, but the rhumerie is very well built and well taken care of. And the rhums (older ones) are good!

Fantastic rum factory with detailed explanations of the distillation process. Closed out by the sampling session of their products, lunch is also available which we did not do but looked quite lively and busy with happy customers/tourists. The drive there is also spectacular in the hills

We were charged 350 rupees per person which was really worth its a fun tour which gives you a detail insight on Rum making however the time we visited the machines and the process was not happening and as per our guide the actual process happens during June to Dec if am not wrong. Our guide was patient and very... More

Although the set up of the Rhumerie is too commercial for my taste, it is very interesing to be talked through the rum making process and to see short movies about the harvest. If you can, go there between mid June and mid December which is the harvesting season and you would actually see the sugar cane turned into rum.... More

Perfect explanation of distillery process und cane production. The testing of different kind of domestic rums created hot feeling in very short time. But you will not regret!

Rum season over. However, Wendy our Guide gave an excellent 'tour' with an interesting history on the Rhummery. Opportunity to sample the many types of rum available. We dined on the Restaurant Patio- a Tropical rainstorm added to the experience. The food was excellent. I would particularly recommend the rack of lamb, the rhum baba- and of course the Mojitos....
