Although the set up of the Rhumerie is too commercial for my taste, it is very interesing to be talked through the rum making process and to see short movies about the harvest. If you can, go there between mid June and mid December which is the harvesting season and you would actually see the sugar cane turned into rum.... More

Perfect explanation of distillery process und cane production. The testing of different kind of domestic rums created hot feeling in very short time. But you will not regret!

Rum season over. However, Wendy our Guide gave an excellent 'tour' with an interesting history on the Rhummery. Opportunity to sample the many types of rum available. We dined on the Restaurant Patio- a Tropical rainstorm added to the experience. The food was excellent. I would particularly recommend the rack of lamb, the rhum baba- and of course the Mojitos.... It is an attractive location and has an excellent restaurant. the tour and tasting is also well worth the trip. Don't be bullied by that taxi driver to eat in the local village. Eat here

Having toured quite a number of alcohol making facilities, this one provided little extra information on how the rum is made. It was also quite fast, like twenty minutes and it was over. Could have been expanded upon a bit. But the tasting was interesting and I appreciate different samples provided to compare. They have a great gift shop from... More

Set amongst beautiful scenery, the Rhumerie is an interesting stop if you are near Chamarel. A brief tour (10-15 mins) of the factory is included as well as tasting of 8 of their rums (mostly different flavours)

Rhumerie de Chamarel has been open for six years, set against the stunning back-drop of Black River Mountain the tallest peak in Mauritius. Our knowledgeable guide Vanessa accompanied us through the beautifully landscaped gardens at the entrance to the factory. A brief tour of the machinery and techniques used to process the sugar cane and the distillery process is followed... More

The rum distillery is a modern facility located high in the picturesque mountain landscape of Mauritius. It grows all its own sugar cane and uses every part including burning the fibres for fuel. Smart, personable and friendly girls show you round in groups, with english, german and french tours available. After seeing the sugar cane processing plant and the distillery... More

Very professional tour and facility in a wonderful setting. The tour of the factory is short but interesting. The plant only is operational in the sugar cane harvesting season so we didn't get to see the actual juice extraction happening but a short movie was shown regarding this. The highlight is the tasting of the several variations of rums produced.... More
