I am not going to be following my usual style of review for this place. Let me list out the negatives 1. Entrance fee to the city itself. 2. Every where you go, you have to pay money - to park, to pee etc. All of this is under goonda style where no receipts are given. 3. Bus drivers are... More

We went to Chennai in October and being a Tamilian, its easy to converse and travel around. Around 2 hrs away from the city, is Mahabalipuram which was a place we have been meaning to visit for a long time On a day when it was pouring heavily, it presented us with a perfect weather to look around. Attractions include... More

Arjuna's penance is one big stone releif which all the foreign tourists flock to see. But they are not aware of a lot more lying behind in the rocks to which you enter through the park nearby. The signages hardly offer the real historic import of any of the various structures that lie strewn all around the vast expanse on... More

An exiciting holiday destination just outside Chennai. Plan a weekend with friends and family. You can carry your own lunch and have a picnic there. Ticket worth Rs 10 will authorise you to visit Shore temple, five raths. Lighthouse can be visited on extra payment. Monuments can be visited from 6 in the morning till 6 in the evening.

Fantastic sea temples, possibly unique in their execution. Well worth a full days trip, possibly even staying over. Usual touts and gypsy bead sellers, but do haggle in the shops as the tourist prices are very negotiable! The carved stone ornaments can be exceptional and good value.

Most of the monuments do not have decent information boards to explain what one is viewing. One is left to the mercies of the guides or sight-seeing information downloaded from the internet. There are so many sights that would be better appreciated if adequate information was provided. It's a bit of a waste of time to come to Mahabalipuram just... More

Best time to visit the seashore is just before sunset. The other monuments are best before noon. Don't try to do them in a rush bust stay there for some days. Most has free access. Only the Five Rathas and the Sea shore you have to do in the same day, because of the ticket.

Get a sense of how temples were created out of sheer monolithic granite rocks on the sea shore with a ery neat and clean beach next to them.
