The view from the top of the fort is awesome though it is a good 2 hrs to get to the top. Avoid raining season as the path get very slippery and becomes difficult to climb or get down

30 minutes from Panvel station, Karnala fort is situated inside of Karnala Bird sanctuary. Height 1538ft. Difficult trek through jungle and steep hill which is treacherous. It takes 2 hours to reach top of fort. From there view is excellent. Can find small water well inside of the fort.

Karnala fort is right outside Navi Mumbai at a distance of 15 Km (approx) from Panvel on Mumbai Pune Highway. The trek hardly takes 90 to 120 minutes to climb from the base. The woods are real thick at some places and ambiance is quite refreshing. The climb is difficult at some places as there are not well constructed steps.... More

My friends and I visited for a one day trek to Karnala on the first of December 2013. We all had a memorable time trekking up Karnala. We left Pune for Panvel by the Pragati Express(we had to make a dash and only boarded the train with a minute to spare). We reached Panvel at around 10 in the morning... More

If you have to go, trek with a group but never alone or with your partner. Me and my wife were accosted by a group of hardened criminals near the fort (just when you cross the small temple). Valuable worth 2 lacs were looted. I could only manage to save my wife and my life. My built helped us for... More

The trek is a short one (about 2 hours going up with stops for clicks) and about 1-1:30 coming down (unless there is rain which makes it half an hour longer). The top is picturesque and well worth the effort. The climb up is relatively easy with steep slopes on some parts (about 25% of the way). The best part... More

After a tiring week at office. We made a quick plan to visit Karnala Fort and trekking to the top of the “Thumb Hill”. Four friends, 2 Bikes lots of rain and unlimited fun. Best to start the trek is when it is dark (5:30 am). There is no cell phone reception on the top. The date of formation of... More

Best to start the trek is when it is dark (5:30 am). There is also cellphone reception on the top.The date of formation of karnala fort is not know but it predates 1400 A.D. The bird sanctuary has very few types of birds compared to a decade ago.It is a beautiful place for a one day picnic.
