As a local to the area, I am ashamed to say that I have never visited here before. The wetlands are approx 20 mins from the cbd, great parking, free entry and toilet amenities provided. The wetlands are a vast space with beautiful scenery and excellent walking tracks.

This place is amazing. Well made paths and boardwalks, wheelchair accessible, through beautiful mixed melaleuca and rainforest wetland. Apart from the lakes and a little water in the creek, it is a bit dry but hey, this area has had 10 yrs of drought. Free Bbq's and shelters around the big lake and seats everywhere. Will defiantly return in the... More

Am a local and had not been here for ages and simply forgot how beautiful it is here, especially in winter. Have 2 little ones and easily accessible for a pram and bike. Don't forget to take a picnic and mozzie spray though it wasn't too bad today.

This wetland area north of Cairns really is a hidden gem. We had the whole reserve to ourselves. Excellent tracks around the various sized lakes, also a board walk. Excellent facilities including toilets and barbecues and information boards. It is free, absolutely no entrance charge. Well worth a visit. We saw a few bird species, but really we visited at... If you like to see nature but don't want/can't go to far off the beaten track this is a great place to visit. If you have young kids there are toilets in the large car park. If you have someone that needs to be able to rest often there are benches and seats regularly around the paths. The paths vary... More

Have lived here for many years and wasn't aware how beautiful these wetlands are. First visit and was very impressed. Excellent walking tracks and beautiful boardwalk ( much nicer than Cairns Botanical boardwalk). Two very nice BBQ areas overlooking one of the lakes. Good toilet facilities. Lots of birdlife and interesting signs telling about wildlife that can be found here... More

I'm unsure what the problem was on the day we were there but there wasn't a single water bird in any of the dams and lakes. We saw some Rainbow Bee-eaters and other land based birds, although only about half a dozen species, but not a single water bird. Very strange. It is flat, well laid out with good signage... More

A fantastic place for bird watchers. We spent hours but wished we'd taken insect repellent as we were covered in mossies.
