Despite the fact that the Fort is historical and dates back to the infamous Sepoy mutiny during the East India Company rule, the maintenance leaves a lot to be desired. This abundant fort is terrible for single travelers. However, the shiva temple (Jalakandeswarar/ Jwarahareswarar) inside the fort and the garden outside are recreational spots for a lot in the evening.

The fort is good but unfortunately poorly maintained and its nothing like the other great forts in India. The area is calm and quite and not flooded with tourists even on a Sunday. You may check out the Jalakandeshwarar temple which is fairly well maintained. Infact the temple is the highlight inside the fort. Do visit it. There is also... More

The fort is a glorious sight and a must-see if you are travelling through Vellore or staying there for some time. There is no cost attached to visiting this landmark, unless you want to visit the museum inside, this will cost a foreigner Rs. 100.00. The fort has had a turbulent and violent history, some of the buildings inside is... More

This is a very old attraction in town. This fort is surrounded by water with lotus at some places. The temple inside the fort was opened in the recent decade. The legend says that there is a tunnel from this fort to a near by town. This fort also has a under water hall where you could climb down a... More

Well, if this fort had be been far away, perhaps people would have loved it more! :-) It is right there in the middle of the town and since the traffic surrounding it is so very crazy, it is hard to stop and appreciate this beauty. It is a great structure and i was impressed by the size and beauty... More

The walls and the moat on one side are well preserved. It is almost a case of what can be- that is a little sad. The walls are intact and splendid- a little bit of cement and concrete at places, but that is restoration in India. There are offices and playgrounds and living quarters for government officials inside, the office... More

Vellore Fort is one of the best tourist attractions in the city. Being very close to the Christian Medical College, many people who are visiting the hospital do visit this place. The Fort has a nice boundary to do evening walk over it and beautiful temple inside. The architecture of the temple is very good. You can rest your mind... More
