Great to walk around here and check out the daily life of locals in a walled city. Not too touristy yet. Most truly old buildings would have been demolished years ago. A very pleasant place to stroll around and imagine you are in ancient China. Not sure how many of the "old" buildings are genuine and how many are re-builds, but anyway it gives you a taste of what it might have been like hundreds of years ago.

We drove and parked outside the East gate and then just wandered around. We bought a ticket to climb the steps up to walk along the top of the wall, but only part of the wall is open to be walked. Didn't buy the many attraction ticket but headed off to walk up Shoushan - the mountain park nearby. Enjoyed... More

A friend of mine and I decided we wanted to get out of Beijing and go someplace off the beaten path. We looked at the railway timetables for places within 3 hours of Beijing by high speed rail, and found Huludao. We left at 7:15 and got there at 10:30, We caught a cab to the XingCheng ancient city.
