It's difficult to describe this experience without lapsing into cliches. Photos simply don't do it justice. We drove in from Nice via Lac St Croix and stayed in Moustiers Ste Marie for 2 nights. That morning drive in alone alone was memorable, with perfectly calm, sunny but chilly weather mirroring the distant alps shimmering on the lake, a perfectly clear... More

A must see in this part of France. Not as dramatic as Grand Canyon, but maybe more beautiful. Take two days driving around, hiking etc. and spend the night somewhere with a view.

We set off for the gorge from sainte Marie at 230pm. So it was a bit late. That means when the afternoon sun was on the lake when we drove back on D952 and the photos didn't turn out great as our camera faced the sun. Btw D952 was a bit scary to drive but just be alert! We attempted... More

One of those canyons you simply try to decide which is really the b-e-s-t photo-op available (-: .... We chose to visit the area on October start, in order to get the best colors of fall, and indeed, that magnificent path of leafes accompany your way all along... together with the turquoise route of verdon river create natural harmony at... We traveled to Verdon from Aix en Provence - a couple hours away, by way of beautiful country roads. The area is spectacular and well worth the visit. The souring mountains lead to deep revines and blue lakes, sprinkled with charming towns such as Moustiers Saint-Marie (a must see) and magnificent views. We climbed to the top of one of... More

This spot is definitely not undiscovered however it was amazing at the lack of tourists here. Our group was one of the few english speaking groups (which is fun) but it was the highlight of our 14 day Europe trip. The water scenery, water, and driving is top notch. This stop is so worth the out of the way driving... More

Spent a lovley day here where we drove around the canyon stopping off and the different views points along the way. Esau to stop off at one-off the nearby villages and eat in one of the cafes. We also rented pedalos, situated on the Lac St Croix which leads into the gorge, easily spotted when going over the bridge at... More

This is a wonderful nature phenomenon with the very deep gorge and the river down below. The sights are magnificent. The autumn changing colors of the trees add to the beautiful scenery. We took the north road from Castellane to Moustiers st Marie and back by the south road in direction to Castellane. It took us half a day.

We are so glad we made the effort to visit this area. We hired a car from Nice (make sure you get one with a GPS/satnav that works) and spent the day exploring this region. It was a long day, but worth every minute. The village of Castelane which is on the way is worth a stop to have a... More

Driven by Star Tours on a day trip from Nice to the Gorges of the Verdon. Absolutely fabulous. The clear September day meant we had the place almost to ourselves and the drive and scenery were glorious. The jagged cliffs, green pools of the river and blue lake all among autumnal colours were not to be missed. We were also... More
