We bought a 3 day bus pass only to use the bus on the first day and last day to get to/fro from the hotel to the station - what a waste!. Bus schedule is also not very often. We rented bicyles from the Shirahama tourist information centre near the beach. We cycled around Shirahama (in a loop starting from... More

We stayed here for three days in this summer. Initially we chose the place for her famous onsen (hot spring) but found that it's also famous for the beautiful beach, one of the best 55 beaches in Japan. The sands are very smooth and you felt very comfortable on walking. I have visited many beaches in the world, like Bondi... More

Well the beach itself is gorgeous with perfect white sand. But it's hard to think of it as relaxing, as it's an overdeveloped strip with high rises all along the beach. Still, it's the best beach you'll find in the Wakayama prefecture.

I was here midday in May, so there were no crowds and the weather was cool. The beach is long beautiful landscaped. The water is crystal clear, the sand a brilliant white. There are many cute little shops to dine in, catch some coffee or beer, or buy souvenirs. Wonderful

If you are in Japan but you don't have the chance to go to Okinawa and the islands, Shirahama and its beach can be a good solution. The beach has a very white sand and all possible services, including hot baths practically on the beach. During the low season many shops and attractions are closed, but there is also very... More

In early spring, the beach was almost deserted, which was great for a long, blissful walk. The water was clear but cold and the white and powdery sand offered comfort to tired feet. One can just lie down on the sand and dream. Beautiful view all around.

I've been there in early June this year. Such a beautiful place with prefect white sand and clear water. Nice sunset view also. Sad that it was a bit too cold to swim. Wanna be there once again for swimming.

I searched everywhere on Tripadvisor but no-one mentioned of the free hot spring foot baths here. Along the shoreline and beach of Shirahama are a number of free hot spring foot bath that you can dip your feet into. The one west of the Shirahama beach has the best scenic view and the biggest of the 3 that I've been... More

Shirahama Beach is a beautiful spot. The sand may be from imported from Australia, but the water is stunning, the palm trees look fantastic and there are food and drink opportunities at every section - as well as a natural hot springs further up the beach. In summer it is hugely busy, so make sure to book accommodation in advance.

Apparently the sand is imported from Australia, and I'm inclined to believe it as tr sand in the surrounding beach is more like gravel. We went there in mid-August by car, and that costs around ¥15000, and parking ranged from ¥1000-¥2000 per day. It is crowded, and most of the people are sleeping in the sun. The sand is beautiful,...
