Very nice and clean sand. The current is really strong so please mind your kids. There is a non smoke policy on the beach and some funny restaurants. When you come from the station, I advice you to stop 200 m before the beach. On the legt side of the street there is an little public bathing area for your... More

Very traditional onsen with tons of giant insects. Not for ladies..the onsen is full of suspended particles but it was said that those were good for skin. We are skeptical about it

It was off season and thus not many people on the beach. My 2yr & 5yr kids were enjoying (too much). We were so exhausted to keep it up with two kids! Water is so clear and feeling of the sand is great! I love to go back there near future for longer (we only stayed 2 nights & swim... More

The sand was white, fine and smooth. The beach was clean. Didn't see litter. Was there in November so a bit too cold to swim. It was sunny. Temperatures were between 15C to 18C. The beach was not crowded. You could walk from one end of the beach to the other end within 15 minutes. There is a hot spring... More

We were there during September and it was not crowded at all. Its great for kids too, we had our 2 years old with us. He loved it. Every evenings fireworks were a bit annoying.

I love this place! It's very accessible by car and nearby public parking gives you the first hour free. The facilities (toilets, showers, changing rooms) are convenient and the beach itself is very clean. There are dining, lodging, and amusement options within walking distance which is a plus. Can't wait to come back!

We bought a 3 day bus pass only to use the bus on the first day and last day to get to/fro from the hotel to the station - what a waste!. Bus schedule is also not very often. We rented bicyles from the Shirahama tourist information centre near the beach. We cycled around Shirahama (in a loop starting from... More

We stayed here for three days in this summer. Initially we chose the place for her famous onsen (hot spring) but found that it's also famous for the beautiful beach, one of the best 55 beaches in Japan. The sands are very smooth and you felt very comfortable on walking. I have visited many beaches in the world, like Bondi... More
