THIS PLACE IS MY FAVORITE!! They had the best views for cherry blossoms. Here are my recommendations: 1. Before going there, check the cherry blossoms forecast in http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2011.html 2. How to get there? This website http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4151.html explained everything. You just need to choose "to/from tokyo", "to/from kyoto", "to/from osaka" or "to/from nara" (it depends on your origin). I departed from... More

Up to the top roads are well developed any person can climb without trouble. Better to wear comfortable shoes it helps when you descending the mountain. I maintained an average climbing speed and able to finish the course within four and half hours (including short breaks). The mountain top does not have vending machine better to carry some extra water.

Do check the sakura forecast and WEATHER FORECAST before leaving your accommodation for the best experience. I stayed in Kyoto and by JR, it costed me around a thousand yen. But the number of transfers and the short timing between transfers caused my journey to and fro to be about five hours. The express from Kyoto is much faster but... More

A little hard to get to, but great view (if you come at the right season). Expect a hike since this is a national park, but the trail is beautiful. You can also catch the shuttle bus if you're lucky and got your timing right. We stayed here overnight at a small ryokan and started out early morning. There's a... More

I went here to see the sakura, sadly most of them were only slightly open when I visited (April 2nd 2015). I think the sakura on Yoshino open a few days later than in central Nara, possibly due to their height - I wish I had realized this before I went. They were still pretty and there are many other... Yoshinoyama is spectacular for sakura We were there early in the second week of April 2014 and the trees on all four levels were in bloom. I believe they say there are 40,000 of them - or more. If you are English speaking and looking for the information center, it is tucked away and somewhat difficult to find. The map... More

During the last springtime 2014, the sakura period had arrived just a bit earlier than usual and for this reason very few cherry blossoms were visible in the week-end 11-14 April 2014, both in Tokyo and in Kyoto. For the late-comers like me, the best solution was to go to Mt Yoshino, south of Kyoto (and South-east of Osaka). The... More

Even though I went a little past the cherry blossom peak season, the views I saw while ascending up Mount Yoshino were still magnificent and fantastic. Visited a few temples, namely the Kinpusenji Temple and Yoshimizu Temple, which offers commanding views of the cherry blossoms. If time permits, you could also drop by 湯元宝の家, located just after the entrance of... More

This must simply be the best kept secret amongst local Japanese tourists (you don't get the hordes of foreigners thronging Kiyomizudera Temple for example). It's quite far to drive or bus in from Kyoto/Osaka/Nara as a daytrip. And tricky to negotiate via the local Kintetsu Rail. So we chose to stay at the Kashihara Royal Hotel, just 5 mins' walk... I wish this place would remain a secret. It's too beautiful! When we visited during the cherry blossoms season, there were mostly locals who came to visit the shrines. Love that this place is not too touristy but more authentic. Mount Yoshino is definitely one of the most beautiful places I've been to in my life! Walking up the hilly... More
