Hakuba Resort s quite spread out and getting anywhere is an undertaking. There were no shops in Wadano, (the area within Happo where we stayed),so we had to ask our hotel staff to drive us to the supermarket for any supplies we needed. .Lugging skis and walking in boots to the Happo chairlift each day in icy slippery conditions was... Wide variety of runs with very few people. Lift lines were virtually non-existent which was good as lift etiquette in Japan is odd to say the least & the lifts not that very fast. Was easy to navigate one-self around the hill & the close proximity of our hotel enabled an easy stroll both to & from the hill.

Our family loved Happo-one. They have a variety of runs appropriate for all levels of skiers and a cool sled park for the little ones.

In mid march some places had closed and some meal options had run out for the season. Some lifts were not operating. Although the skiing was what individuals made of it some establishments had had their fill of tourists and wanted to be left alone. Some restaurants were also empty whilst being open.

Large ski area, brilliant snow and no queues? The runs we're long and accomadated all levels of skiers. Loved the Japanese restaurant s on the slopes. Amazing mountain scenery, very impressive. Friendly Japanese staff everywhere

Easy access and a good variety of conditions from beginner to expert level skier. A good range of chairs and a gondola to get you access to most parts of the area.

Lots of groomed runs. Great lifts. Good beginner slope. Ski Patrol strict about going off-piste unfortunately.

Decent resort for families, nice slopes, 4 lifts to the top, although not many off piste runs. The runs at the bottom are not well connected by trial runs. To get from Kokusai lift to Sakka lifts is a bit of a hike.

I had great expectations of Hakuba (Happo One was our base) ski area and it didn't live up to them. We only skied at Niseko prior to the recent trip to Japan and after Hakuba, at Nozawa Onsen. In my opinion both are superior to Happo One and Hakuba in general. There are a couple of significant downsides of Hakuba... More
