We drove ourselves from the Papagayo area. Bumpy road but good signs from Filidelfia. The folks there were cordial and spoke good English. The cultural demonstrations were fun, we squeezed sugar cane, made a citrus drink with the juice and sampled candy made with it. Then we toured an authentic old home, made tortillas and sampled more Costa Rican food.... More

I highly recommend El Viejo Wetlands if you are interested in doing the Palo Verde National Park safari boat tour. This beautiful property located in the middle of the sugar cane plantation, show us a real costarrican hacienda style, offering the boat tour, really good lunch and a bit of the local culture; staff is super friendly, professional, always smiling... One of the most welcoming and accommodating visits we've had. All staff went out of their way to make sure we had an unforgettable day. The 'cultural' tour was very interesting and informative. The boys LOVED making tortillas and eating them. The music was great and really set the scene. The boat trip was brilliant, there was lots the see... More

There was a bit of miscommunication to begin with. I was without internet the few days leading up to the scheduled tour and couldn't verify the pick-up time. But the staff at our hotel sorted it out with a phone call. This was a very laid-back tour. We were driven over to the house, then the river. Kevin was our... More

The entire tour of El Viejo Wetlands was an incredible visit starting from the grounds of Casona which is now a restaurant to the boat tour on the Tempisque River. We saw so much wildlife including the holler and the capuchin monkeys, anteaters, lots of birds for the bird watchers. It was a very rewarding experience that pictures cannot express... More

I booked two part tour (Boat & Cultural) directly with El Viejo Wetlands. Jennifer was very responsive to all my questions over the e-mail and since I had Costa Rica Card she gave me 15% discount on the final price. The place is beautiful and the guide that was provided to us was very attentive. He always managed to manoeuvre... More

After a bumpy dirt road drive, we got to an oasis in the middle of a 20,000 acre sugar farm. There was a little demonstration of how they get the sugar out of the canes. The boat ride through the wetlands afforded us amazing views of capucin monkeys, howler monkeys, iguanas, tons of birds and some crocodiles. Our tour guide... More

The hacienda is beautiful and they have some fresh fruit and juice ready when you arrive. We did the boat tour and saw howler monkeys, iguanas, jesus christ lizards, sleeping bats, a beautiful variety of birds, and lots of crocs of all sizes. The guide was knowledgeable and I learned a lot about Costa Rican wildlife. After the boat tour,... More

Had an excellent time here. We took the 2-part cultural and river tour. Guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Waited for us even though we were quite late (got lost). Abundant wildlife to be seen on he river - crocs, monkeys, birds, iguanas. And a good lunch thrown in. Well worth doing!

This was a really nice boat tour on the Tempisque River in Costa Rica's tropical dry forest. We saw Howler and white-headed Capuchin monkeys, crocodiles, birds, bats and lots of iguanas and lizards. Afterwards we were treated to a wonderful lunch at the Hacienda and a demonstration of the old sugar mill works. This was an easy trip with lots... More
