After a bumpy dirt road drive, we got to an oasis in the middle of a 20,000 acre sugar farm. There was a little demonstration of how they get the sugar out of the canes. The boat ride through the wetlands afforded us amazing views of capucin monkeys, howler monkeys, iguanas, tons of birds and some crocodiles. Our tour guide... More

The hacienda is beautiful and they have some fresh fruit and juice ready when you arrive. We did the boat tour and saw howler monkeys, iguanas, jesus christ lizards, sleeping bats, a beautiful variety of birds, and lots of crocs of all sizes. The guide was knowledgeable and I learned a lot about Costa Rican wildlife. After the boat tour,... More

Had an excellent time here. We took the 2-part cultural and river tour. Guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Waited for us even though we were quite late (got lost). Abundant wildlife to be seen on he river - crocs, monkeys, birds, iguanas. And a good lunch thrown in. Well worth doing!

This was a really nice boat tour on the Tempisque River in Costa Rica's tropical dry forest. We saw Howler and white-headed Capuchin monkeys, crocodiles, birds, bats and lots of iguanas and lizards. Afterwards we were treated to a wonderful lunch at the Hacienda and a demonstration of the old sugar mill works. This was an easy trip with lots... More

our group was small (four participants) and we had an up close and personal, intimate wildlife viewing experience no less stunning than the Kazinga Channel in Uganda that i was also on. birds, capuchin monkeys, crocodiles, bats, and just an explosion of life. this was amazing to behold and we topped it off with a delightful lunch at a breezeway... we were taken here by a private birding guide. We took a 90 minute boat trip on the Tempisque River -- saw numerous birds, monkeys, bats, crocodiles. It was really amazing. Then we had a great lunch at the hacienda. Temperature was very hot, but the cool breeze in the open air restaurant was quite comfortable. Portions were large --... More

This was our first attempt at zip lining and it was wonderful! Total of 6 lines and then an Indiana Jones worthy suspension bridge to cross at the end. Both guides were very professional and very knowledgable about the area and the history of the plantation. The lunch they served at the hacienda was delicious!

It would be awesome if wildlife were predictable, but it's not. However, I still think this was a great tour even though we mainly saw iguanas, crocodiles, and a couple different species of birds. We also heard a group of howler monkeys who obviously didn't like the sound of the boat motor. The river is gorgeous and the tour lasted... More

We started from Ocotal to El Viejo Wet lands. We had a GPS from car rental which helped a lot. The drive from Ocotal to El Viejo is through unpaved and some times unmarked roads. It is not easy to get lost but feel nervous and wonder if you were lost.Once you know you are on right path, you can... More
