We received a warm welcome at the hacienda with fresh fruit and juice before our tour started. The boat was quite luxurious and the captain and Jamie were very friendly people. They pointed out some monkeys, birds and crocodiles but we also saw lots of animals they didn't say anything about. Birds were flying everywhere but they seemed only interested... More

Great boat tour! We saw everything and Jamie and the captain were wonderful. Pointed out all the creatures. It was really nice to have the whole boat for just the two of us. Not a bad price for all the animals you get to see. Would highly suggest visiting if you want to see the nature of Costa Rica!

Il Viejo is "conveniently" located about 15km off hwy 21 in Filadelfia. Just follow the signs (the first one is hard to find) down a gravel road thru the sugar cane fields and past the sugar cane processing plant. The ride there is almost as interesting as Il Viejo itself. You arrive at a beautiful hacienda where they had coffee... More

We took the kids to learn about sugar cane and the process it under goes. The cultural tour was great for that- its fairly basic so don't expect much but its worth the trip and cost. The drive out there is beautiful- the farm is also very nice. Its about an hour and fifteen from Tamarindo- roads we're good for... More

Our group(4 adults),thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this unique place. After a bit of a winding drive from the Hacienda, we took a nearly 2 hour river cruise where we spotted crocodiles, many migrant birds, monkeys and iguanas. Our guide Jamie, was wonderful at spotting the various creatures blending into their natural settings. Jamie was very patient making sure that... More

I was very apprehensive about getting out on the river that is filled with crocodiles but our tour guide was so knowledgeable and engaging that I felt safe and truly enjoyed my time on the boat and tour. We saw lots of croc's, white faced capuchin monkeys, iguanas, birds, heard some howler monkeys. After our boat tour we had the... More

We went on New Year's Day and had the river boat to ourselves, with our guide Jamie and Captain Gustino. The captain has over 20 years experience so knows the waters well and saw things I never would have on my own. He got us to within three feet of a big crocodile on shore, safely. Jamie was fun and... The river nature cruise was wonderful. The tide was low, so we were able to see so many crocodiles. Lots of birds were flying around and it's guaranteed that you'll see green iguanas. Lunch was really good. You get a choice of chicken, fish, or steak to go with your comida tipica (rice, black beans, and plantains). The tour of... More

By now, you've probably already noticed that the people of Costa Rica are incredibly hospitable and nice. This hacienda is no exception. We started our visit with a great lunch, a warm buffet serving rice, vegetables, tilapia and steak. Excellent service by all staff, all spoke great English and seemed to enjoy sharing knowledge about the area in general. Kevin,... More

We drove ourselves from the Papagayo area. Bumpy road but good signs from Filidelfia. The folks there were cordial and spoke good English. The cultural demonstrations were fun, we squeezed sugar cane, made a citrus drink with the juice and sampled candy made with it. Then we toured an authentic old home, made tortillas and sampled more Costa Rican food.... More
