It's a steep walk to get there, but the extensive remains of the castle are well worth the climb from the car park at the bottom of the hill. Good interpretation, and plenty to explore.

Not far of the mail Newtown Welshpool Road up a steep hill Well worth a visit.has been recently excavated to show the original walles ect.

Perched atop a hill overlooking the Severn Valley near Abermule this is a "Welsh" castle as opposed to an "English" castle built in Wales. The ruins are the sort I used to love as a child, much more fun than a deary NT stately home. Access is for the reasonably mobile only because it's a short but steep climb up... More

Don't be put off by the steep path as once you get to the top it's worth the walk. It's not for people on wheelchairs or have limited walking. It's one of the smaller castles I've been to, I can see why they built Castles up on high ground. It does have lovely views.
