Middleport Pottery Home of Burleigh is a unique visitor attraction. We are open to the public and have a whole host of things to see and do. -Burleigh Factory Shop Open Mon-Sat 9am-5pm/Sun 10am-4pm -Middleport Visitor Centre Open Tues-Sun 10am-5pm -Cafe Open Mon-Sun 9am-4pm -Factory Tours Tues-Thurs at 11am and 2pm, and Fri at 11am (all guided tours must be pre-booked) On arriving at the visitor centre reception situated in the old lodge you can collect a map designed to guide you through areas of the factory that bring to life the history of the building and the people behind the pottery itself. Enjoy tea and cake on the canal side in the cafe. Understand the whole production process on one of the pre-booked guided tours. Then finish the day off with a visit to the Burleigh factory shop, where we have a wide range of handcrafted pottery. The Prince's Regeneration Trust raised £8.5 miliion to purchase the Middleport Pottery site and to carry out restoration work which prevented existing jobs and skills from being lost from the area and will ensure the future of this unique site. The funding came from a range of sources including the Regional Growth Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and European Regional Development Fund as well as from private donors, Stoke-On-Trent City Council has been a key partner in the project. Middleport Pottery continues to be the 'Home of Burleigh'; the pottery business which occupies approximately half the site. Burleigh is now owned by Denby Holdings and they continue to produce beautiful ware in the building which has been their home since it was bulit in 1888. In 2014 the atmospheric site will feature a new visitors centre to explore and cafe to enjoy. These facilities will attract visitors from out of the area and offer spaces and facilities for community use. We will also offer a varied programme of education, events and activities. In the remaining space, workshops will be created for small creative businesses bringing further jobs to the area, and allow them to grow and flourish. On the top floor, at the core of the site, serviced office space will also provide accommodation for small businesses. We are committed to offering training and development and are working in partnership with the other Prince's Charities, Staffordshire University and many local organisations to offer exciting opportunities. For the moment visitors are very welcome in the Burleigh shop and pre bookable factory tours are available.

We visited after looking it up on the net. We walked along the canal at Middleport in the direction of Hanley and crossed the bridge (just past the burleigh factory site) over the canal and beared left. It is free to go around. We started in The museum, which was interesting, went in the original bottle oven where they were... More

Thank you for such a kind and thorough review. We don't get a lot of visitors arriving on foot which is a shame really as the walk along the canal towpath is really quite beautiful. One moment you are in beautiful countryside, the next admiring amazing industrial heritage. We are delighted that you enjoyed the projections in the Bottle Oven.... More

Having visited Middleport pottery on a number of occasions with my husband and two children (aged 8 & 5) we booked my daughter's 5th birthday party here. All 17 children had an amazing afternoon learning about local history, taking a trip into a bottle kiln & clay modelling. The staff are always welcoming & knowledgable & we look forward to... More

We recently had a factory tour of this pottery which has been given a completely new lease of life by the Prince's Regeneration Fund. The tour takes about one hour and a quarter. It was very interesting and we saw unique decorating processes in action as well as visiting an original bottle kiln. The museum display areas and the shop... More

We visited with friends expecting a 'run of the mill' tour of dusty dry Victorian industrial archaeology and were very pleasantly surprised. Our guides were interesting, friendly, knowledgeable and obviously passionate about the exhibition. We got close up to the artisans who are working in what was a dying industry. Very sad to hear that the head mould maker is... More
