This is a wonderful house with a marvellous collection of paintings. The family have largely dispensed with ropes and other intrusions on what is a relaxed tour of the house. The guides are charming and well-informed and clearly are much appreciative of the approach taken by the Earl and Countess. There is an impressive car collection - it would have... More

We visited Wilton House which has limited openings so make sure you check their website before making a long journey. There is free parking at the front of the house which is easy to find and well signposted. Entrance is £14.50 for adults. The reception staff were friendly and helpful explaining where we could find things and provided a map.... More

Not only is the interior quite stunning, but also the beautifully laid out gardens. The stable block is also home to special exhibitions.

The grounds are quiet and tranquil but we found the House a little disappointing - we might have missed something but we didn't think that there was that much to actually see. We had to go as we have been to Salisbury many times but didn't feel that it was worth a second visit.

Well worth a visit. Beautiful and extensive grounds. Has a large play area for those with children and plenty a places for picnics. Also has a large restaurant / cafe. House was interesting although only a small selection of rooms were available for viewing mainly displaying portraits of ancestors. Curators were knowledgeable and proactive in sharing what they knew.

Wilton House is a great afternoon pic nic, play, explore for kids and is rarely over busy. The play park with its HUGE slides and cargo nets keeps kids happy for hours and you can just sit in and take in the splendor of the beautiful house and gardens. The river is ideal for paddling and there are so many... More

The 4 State Rooms are magnificent - but there is an urgent need for information cards in each room as the National Trust does. If there are a large number of visitors - or a coach party - there is no way you can talk to the room stewards in all rooms, and there are some rooms with no stewards.... More

Very sumptuous house and gardens but not good value for money given how little of the house you get to see (4 rooms). If you're keen to see works of art by artists such as Rubens then worth visiting but not if you're expecting to see lots of the interior.

This was the first great house we visited on our trip to England and was a great introduction. It's easy to reach from Salisbury, where we were staying, but a world apart. There's a short, well-done introductory video with the history of the house, then guides in many of the rooms to answer questions. The guides were terrific, giving us... More

We had checked on line, but not on the specific Wilton house site and found on arrival that the house was closed for a week for filming. Only mentioned in small print on the one web site. Then lunch in their cafe was very ordinary with nothing hot other than soup and pasties and sausage rolls. Quiche was cold and had... More
