This place is a good stop on your way to Guatapé. The climb up is not as hard as it looks like from the bottom and the view from the top (after 740 steps) is gorgeous. Worth the effort. But you won't stay longer than 1.5 hours. Here's some info on how to get there from Medellín: - Go to... More

Worth the steep steps to reach the top as the views are incredible! You can see all around Guatape and really take in the beauty of the lakes from above.

After you get to the top you will forget the 2 hour drive on the road excessively made of curves. The 740 steps on the stairway, the dust on the floor and that there is not a decent place to eat once you get above. There is a sign that presumably boasts the following: "Welcome to the best view in... More

It is a nice and curious place to look at from a distance but of course you should climb to the top of el Penon to admire surroundings. Great views!

Being from Germany I fell immediately in love with this magical place and bought a vacation home directly at the lake, the views from top are worth the exercise

It's ok, just a big rock really. Obviously you get good views from the top. But as big rocks go, it nothing spectacular - not a patch on Sugarloaf, for example. ~650 steps I believe - took me 8 minutes.

When you first see the massive rock of El Penol in the distance, it is impressive. However as you get closer and closer, and are able to see the individual stairs leading up to the top of the rock, it is downright overwhelming. You think to yourself, I am going to climb up THAT?? But don't worry, take it slow.... More

If you have ever climbed the Eiffel Tower on foot, you will then find some sort of similar staircase sensation. This place is an enormous rock (or meteorite) in the middle of the countryside. The view from the top is really nice and the air is the purest.
