The view from the top of this 200 m - rock is just wonderful. It definitely worth to climb up the 650 stairs. Take a bottle of water with you. The prices are ridiculous up there.

My friend and I went on a Monday. it cost about 11,000pesos (USD$6) to go one way in a Colectivo from Medellin. Ask them to stop on Piedra del Peñol, just 10 minutes away from Guatape. There you can go uphill, or pay 8,000 pesos (USD$4) for a small but steep ride up. Pay the entry fee (I think it... More

I was in Medellin for only 2.5 days. We did not hear much about this place but decided to get someone to drive us there to see it. We were blown away. This is one of the most amazing sights I have seen. I would highly recommend visiting if in Medellin area. We paid 100$ for a trip there and... More

The pictures say it all. 1.5 hour drive from Medellin in the town of Guatape. You go up this massive rock on a 30 min walk and you get a 360 degrees of magical views. Make sure you go on a clear and sunny day so you can get advantage of the spectacular natural scenery around you. You wont be... More

Well worth finding your way to this extraordinary geological wonder. Drive right up to the parking area, where there are a number of gift shops and restaurants. Climb the 650 or so steps to the shop/restaurant area with clean toilet facilities. The climb is hard but taken steadily it can be done by most. there are places to stop and... More

Piedra del Penol is about a 1.5 hr drive from Medellin and well worth every minute and Peso! The approach road starts getting congested with the huge amount of tourists visiting this monument so its best to get out of your vehicle and walk up to the entrance rather than spend an additional 30 minutes inching your way up to... If you come to Medellín you must visit la Piedra del peñol. Believe or not is a lot cheaper if you choose a tour, you can find them in plaza botero. I price it to go by my self and it come to about 50 American dollars, but with the tour was only 30 American dollars with breakfast and lunch... More

Like many reviewers, I took an organized tour from Medellin to Guatape. Seeing the Rock of Penol was fantastic. Due to heavy traffic on the way there, I had a choice to make regarding my time at the Rock: climb or sit, but not both. I decided to sit and enjoy the atmosphere. This is a great place to visit.... This is an absolutely beautiful place. 750 steps and you truly feel like your on top of the world. Great prices on souvenirs too so take some extra pesos. The whole city of Guatape is just a charming place to be. Great place to just get away from the city. Go during the week to avoid crowds. P.s. Take your... More

We headed to the Peidra Del Penol (The rock of Guatape) on a day trip from Medellin, Colombia. The rock with installed 659 step stairway is quite a sight from a distance (and close up for that matter). We learned that the stairs used to be made of wood but have since been upgraded to a sturdy cement version. The... More
