If you are in Medellin you have to do this trip. It's easy by bus from the north bus station in Medellin. 2 hours by bus. At the Rock there is an entree of 15000 Colombian Pesos. But it pays of. In Medellin the weather was bad but at this site of the valley it was great day. Don't miss... More

It's a huge rock with 675 (or about it) steps up. But when you get on top, you'll see an outstanding 360 degrees view on a lagoon with river and many islands. There's amount of souvenir shops at the footage of the Penol. Choose a sunny day to go there.

We did a day trip from Medellín and had an amazing time. It's possible to catch a direct bus from Medellín to La Piedra for 12,000 pesos. The bus leaves roughly every hour on the hour from the north bus station (go to desk #9 to buy tickets). Once you get to the rock it's possible to climb up just... More

This is a big stone with over 700 stairs. The stone is located close to Medellin Colombia. The view on the top is amazing.

The daytrip to Guatape was very worth the bus ride there-I wish we had stayed overnight on the lake. Walking up la Piedra was a very unique experience, with such an amazing view! After we took a bicitaxi to town and the four of us did a boat tour around the lake. It was one of the coolest parts of... More

Stunning views from the lake and La Piedra. A 2 hour trip from the bus terminal from Medellin. Beautiful country side full of nice people. The rock is in private land and this attraction managed by the local people. You have to go and go up. Good food and restaurants up there

Amazing panoramic views across all these man made islands. Worth the climb to the top of the big rock (La Piedra). Also go and visit Guatape itself - very quaint and beautiful town. Wish we had stayed a night rather than just a day trip - but easy to jump on a bus from Medellin (do it yourself not with... More

Amazing, amazing view from the top... Just a bit of serious effort required to get up there. Plenty to eat and nick nacks to buy at the base so for those in your party who don't fancy the climb, they can kill a couple of hours. For those prepared to climb the 750 odd steps to the very top you... More

We visited this landmark on New Year's Day. We are a family of 5 and we loved it. It was a very unique experience and the view from the top is breathtaking!

Yes, you could use "peñol" (as in the title of this listing) but the correct Spanish word for the huge batholith that emerges near Guatapé is "peñón". Apart from the beautiful town of Guatapé and the lakes, the peñón is an impressive attraction. Don't be afraid of climbing up over 700 steps, it is not as hard as it looks... More
