I have visited here before, but forgot how immaculate the interior is of this Monastary and church. The richness certainly reminded me of the churches one would find in the Bayern (southern germany) region. The ceiling paintings, the beautiful gold trims, emacualate figurines, mable at and around the altar. There is a fountain with a gold statue in front of... More

While on holiday in Switzerland visited many beautiful and wonderful places, amongst Kloster Einsiedeln. Tourist are pouring to visit to see its wealth (we were there in summer, high tourist season). Very quiet and security-guards are onsite to protect … Unfortunately to take photographs in the Kloster itself is prohibited. We took a walk around the Kloster, there is a... More

We visited this attraction en route from Zurich to Lucerne - however, the majority of the site is closed between 12:00 and 14:00 - a fact that we were unaware of until we arrived at 12:10! As we could not afford the time to wait until 14:00 to view the full site we decided to see what we could from... More

Einsiedeln and Klosters come highly recommended. Easily accessible via the Swiss train network from Luzern and/or Zurich. The surrounding area is beautiful, rather you visit in Spring, Summer, Fall or in Winter. If you enjoy hiking, mountain biking, sightseeing or whatever you prefer, you will certainly find it here. Locals are very friendly.

made our way from zurich hauptbahnhof, catching 2 trains of 30 mins each. our first stop in Rapperswil where we spent the morning and then we took the train from there to Einsiedeln. across the station you walk uphill about 10mins. it was covered with snow and lovely. the abbey itself is wonderful, with the Black Madonna as soon as... The church is only a part of what is here. Walk around the building to find the stables and check out the gorgeous horses. Beyond that are wide open spaces and a hill to climb with spectacular views. You don't need to climb the hill to see the mountains on a clear day. Plenty of bakeries, tea rooms and restaurants... More

Kids did a day ski school there. Instructors spoke English and we rented the ski equipment on site. Cathedral was beautiful. A stroll through the horse stables was lovely too. Had a great hot dog near the church. Very busy travelling by car on return to Rapperwil-Jona at the close of day. We chose to have dinner there and wait... More

An hour away on a train from Lucerne brings you to the Einsiedeln Monastery. You cannot take photos inside. An awe-inspiring interior along baroque lines with the Black Madonna to greet you as you enter. This place is a must-see if you are in this part of Switzerland. Good coffee and cake shops nearby.
