Fantastic beach! Very hard to navigate the access road-take a bus! Lola's is a great-and only-option for lunch. You can actually meet Lola-she is a 700 pound pig who lives behind the restaurant. No pressure to hurry your food, just hang out and enjoy the vibe of the best surf in Guanacaste.

Great food, good serviced, wonderful beach, Lolita the pig! Spent the whole afternoon there enjoying food, drinks and the Pacific Ocean.

Unless you prefer crowds and intoxicated sun-worshipers, you should head to Playa Avellanes. This beach is beautiful and a much more natural experience than Tamarindo. We drove there in our rental SUV and while it was a short distance from our hotel, it was good that we had four wheel drive. The road was fun and we did have to... More

I read about this beach before coming to Tamarindo. It said it was the best and indeed it is. The ride in is somewhat difficult but once you arrive it is spectacular. The beach, sand, waves AND the food are all worth the bumpy road. We ate at Lola's on the beach, yummy. And our visit was completed by visiting... More

Beautiful quiet beach. Nuff said. Good for surfing and reading a book in peace. Three cheers for Playa Avellanas

Pros: It can have very good waves and many surfing spots. It has safe zones for kids and seniors. It is enchanting because it still preserves most of its nature. There are no more than 4 small wooden houses and restaurant in front of the beach. All the rest is nature. Good for fishing. Plenty of beach for everybody. Parking... More

This beach was absolutely beautiful!!! When you go you should make sure to be prepared with plenty of sunscreen and water because there is not too much shade and no store to go buy things.

If you're looking to get away from the bustle of Tamarindo, rent a car (or take the $5 shuttle) to this beach. Its not completely empty, but a lot more space to find your own little corner. The water was delightful and we hung out under a tree with some Imperials all afternoon. Lola's down the beach has delicious nachos... More

This place was first of all fun to get too! Long jungle road eventually led to many mud puddle/ponds that looked sketchy to cross! We had ten of us in a van and eventually a policia car went through so we knew- if they could make it- so could we! While measuring out the depth of the water, we can... More

Nice beach. I preferred this one over Tamarindo because it wasn't as crowded. Very laid back and perfect for family/couples
