This is a fairly small beach with a major restaurant/joint Lola's. Very crowded with people coming here either for surfing or for Lola's. Like many other places in CR, you will be driving here on an unpaved tiny road.

I love to walk on the beach anywhere and Avellanes is amazing! Lots of room to make it a workout! Sand is hard most of the way so you can get some speed as well. If you need to cool of, lots of water to go into! Enjoy!

This beach are incredible, the waves are so good and the sunset is beautiful. In the season is a crowded surf.

Another great beach. Best to have a good vehicle to handle the road. We heard they are going to start fixing it up.

Great quite beach and Lola's is so good. Water was warm this Jan during our trip, a little windy, and low surf.

Very nice beach without hotel and crowd, just some nice houses. Nice and soft sand. Really romantic, still wild. Caution: Rip current!!

We did a little day trip from tamarindo to see a different beach. So beautiful! Bigger waves. You find a spot under the trees to put down your blankets and stuff, it's like a natural cabana. Then dinner at Lola's . This is a must do!

The sand is soft, the surf is good and for those that want to swim you can easily walk out into the ocean. Add to that the nearby Beach restaurant of Lola's and you get one of best beach vibes on the Pacific Coast.

It has a lot more people than some of the other beaches nearby, like Playa Negra or Playa Blanca where you'll mostly just find tourists. At Avellanas, you'll find more tourists but they are chill and awesome, lots of cool locals too. You'll also find commerce, great surf and good vibes. Love this beach!

I hesitate writing a review for Playa Avellanas, mostly because I want to be selfish and keep its pristine beauty all to myself (and the handful of locals that frequent it). Playa Avenallas is one of the nicest beaches I've come across, it stretches out for miles and offers many different surf breaks. Didn't bring a board? Never surfed before?... More
