The unassuming exterior of this Romanesque/Renaissance mix of architectural styles (built from the 14th - 16th Centuries) belies the amazing artifacts inside. Originally built to honor the King & Queen of Navarre who founded Laguardia in the 10th Century. The most striking feature is the 14th Century stone Gothic portal, completely covered with carved & polychromed figures of the Apostles,... More

My wife and I visited this church late in the afternoon- because we were the only two English speaking guests we were given a handout with no charge to visit. We find it amazing how different yet similar the various churches in Spain are; this one is lovely.

Laguardia is a gem and this church perhaps its crown jewel. This was our second visit but we took friends who loved it first time. Do go to the Tourist office next to the Los Parajes Hotel in the southern part first and check opening times. The Church is kept locked up. Have two euro coins to pay for the... More

Our Hotel owner recommended this church and we are truly thankful we went. we have been to many churches throughout Europe and this small church is one of the most impressive we have visited. If you are in the Alta Rioja you must take time to visit it and the rest of the town of Lagardia

If you are in Laguardia - come inside this old church with amazing wood carving inside. It is not open all the time - so check with the tourist center or your host. Beautiful!

A hidden gem in Laguardia! The church is only open a few hours a day, so make sure you check with your hotel or the local tourist office for information about opening times,

We took a guided tour of this church and were surprised by its grand features. The portico is painted stone and dates to the 1400s. It was originally exposed to the weather but was eventually enclosed by a large addition to the church. What is amazing is that, outside of one repainting in the 1600s, it has never been restored... I must admit, from the outside I wasn't expecting much. After seeing so many beautiful churches in Spain already, it's hard to get really excited about them. However, this one was a real surprise. The guide opened the outside door to the church and voila! there is 2nd set of doors (the portico) - an elaborate masterpiece carved and painted... More

You can only go inside the church if you are with a guide. It was hard to understand the guide as she did not speak English well & we could only follow along with the written info she gave us. The entrance before entering the church was quite spectacular!
