A beautiful shrine complex near the Ueno park. Perfect place to fins souvenirs as on the way in/out the avenue is walled with tiny kiosks. You cannot go in the main shrine unless for religious practice but you can see everything from the outside. If you go in the evening (around 6pm), you can see and hear the bells and... more

After visiting the Tsukiji Market in the morning, I headed over to the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. It was still pretty early in the morning so things were quiet around the temple and there were not that many people around. Since it was late November I was there right at the tail end of fall and around the temple the... more

I've gone to Asakusa 3 years in a row during the 3rd week in May. During this time, there is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) festivals in Tokyo. All of the streets are jammed with people. Not just tourists, but temple staff, locals, and even some Japanese mafia. Its worth seeing because you are emmersed in Japanese... more

I always stay in Asakusa when I visit Japan. This small town is by far my favourite location in all of Tokyo! This is in part due to the Sensoji temple. Morning, afternoon and evening. Whatever time you visit you are guarnteed to have a whole new experience when you visit. In the morning all the shops on the Nakamise... more

The Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) and Shinto shrines are nice, but one of the most interesting things I found was the Nakamise shopping street with various traditional Japanese souvenirs and local snacks, Although some of the shop ladies can be a little overly pushy at times..there were many interesting souvenirs that couldn't be found at other places more

A must see for tourists heading to Tokyo. Although there are temples aplenty there, this is one of the more famous ones. The place looks serene even when loaded with tourists. A long stretch of shops on both sides of the walkway leads up to the temple. Loads of souvenirs and food to buy / feast on. Found a shop... more

To be honest, I did not know much about the Senso-ji Temple prior to visiting it and my Japanese host and friend felt the temple and the surrounding shopping/eating area would be worth the trip. Once you are in the neighborhood, it is easy to find - just follow the tourists with their city maps, Japanese-English dictionary and cameras to... more

After a tiring day of touring Tokyo (starting early with Tsukiji) we took the Toei Asakusa line to Asakusa station. The Sensoji temple was easy to find and the tourist information center located nearby was very helpful. The shopping area around the temple provided a lot of diversion. We found a great Indian/Bangladeshi restaurant named Shagorika. The restaurant has great... more

Since my inn was just a 10 minute walk from the Sensoji Temple, it was my favorite place to start the day, or rest after a day of sight seeing. If possible, see the temple in the early morning. An amazingly peaceful place in the morning mist as the sun rises. No stalls full of venders, no loud crowds. Just... more

i typically don't like touristy places, but here is one i enjoyed (though i guess it helps that i was there with great company). yes, it is a temple in a public market. the temple is interesting, though i found the market to be especially fun because of all the snacks and little trinkets along the way. shown in the... more
