The entry ticket was a bit pricey but was worth every penny!! We went on January 3 2016 during their special exhibition which included the sleepy barn owl. We also went to the Otter Feeding Time show and saw the cutest otter ever!! Recommended for families and animal lovers!

We enjoyed this aquarium. It is a little hard to find, but once you get to the Sunshine Buildings the signs direct you . The fish and jelly fish displays are quite good. There is wonderful signage for finding out what you are seeing.. The mudskippers were a special treat. The only part we did not care for were that... More

We have been to a number of aquariums in our travels (including Sydney Aquarium and that at Ocean Park, HKG). I did not know what Japan could offer us in that regard, but I was intrigued by the aquarium at the top of the shopping centre! Admission costs were quite reasonable at 2000 yen and re-admission on the same day... More

Located at the top of the Sunshine CIty shopping Mall, the Sunshine Aquarium is a great place to visit if you have a few hours free. Its has a great selection of smaller fish and amphibians plus a few seals and water birds. You aren't going to see any big sharks or sea life like you would at the larger... More

This Aquarium is located on the top floor of Sunshine City and is a bit of a mixed bag. When you first enter, there are a series of outdoor "exhibits", namely sea lions and pelicans in enclosures that look quite small. There are also a few other mixed enclosures with fish and ducks and an armadillo which was charging around... More

The aquarium is pretty lovely, compact, and there's always something delightful to see in a few steps! There's none of the cheap multimedia gimmick, but instead you'll be treated with well-tended exhibits in comfortable environment. The souvenir store also offer very nice goods with cute designs. Whether you're solo, couple, with friend or family, this aquarium will be suitable for... More

There is really nothing impressive about this aquarium. It is divided into two sections - outdoors and indoors. The outdoor section is small and includes enclosures for sea lions, penguins, otters, and pelicans. None of the enclosures seem big enough and the animals don't look too happy. The pelicans are particularly depressing. The indoor section is much more of a... More

Outstanding experience, this Aquarium, located on a high floor of a skyscraper, features some fantastically exotic fish and a really great sea lion show!

Spent an hour and a half here on a weekday. Not busy and quite easy to get through it all without being crowded. Some of the tanks for the marine life were very small which was a bit sad. We saw a sea otter being fed and played with at 2pm in its tank and it was such a joy... More

It was beautiful. But small and some of the tanks and cages are way too small for the animals they enclose. I heard of lot of Japanese people looking at the exhibits and saying they looked tasty. Kinda missed the point of an aquarium. I think it's not worth it to be honest.

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme.
