This is easily one of the better aquariums I've been to. It's smaller than those in America, but the quality makes it worth it. The animals that are there are different than those that I've seen in aquariums before. There are garden eels (which is a big attraction based on the amount of garden eel merchandise in the gift shop),... More

I'm not a aquarium/fish fan, but when I went here, I just want to move here and put my bed plus my ps4 and a pizza then I can live here forever. Hahaha! But yes, It is awesome! I will visit this place again!! I just love it. And btw, don't forget to check the penguins outside!! :)

I was lucky enough to come when a diver was in the tank feeding the sharks and sting rays, which was an added bonus and quite cool to watch. Had an interesting assortment of creatures to see and I found all the tanks easily viewable.

Just a 10 minute walk from Ikebukuro Station, this aquarium was a real treat for my 6 year old on a drizzly day in Tokyo. It took a little effort to locate it in the busy shopping mall, but it was worth it. There were some very interesting exhibits and the surrounding skyscrapers made a great backdrop to the seal... This really is a nice aquarium for being in the middle of the city. It cost 2,000 yen per adult and takes about an hour to go through. There are definitely nicer aquariums out there for a cheaper admission, you just won't find them in the middle of Tokyo.

Located at the top of Sunshine City, the aquarium is perfect for a family visit. With an outdoor and indoor section along with regular shows and animal feedings it's easy to spend a few hours without getting bored. The food in the cafe is quite good and not very expensive and the gift shop has everything you need for that... More

While in Tokyo we planned to go to the Shinagawa aquarium; but it was closed for renovation so we headed to Sunshine Aquarium. It was about a 30 minute walk from the Ikebukuro JR Yamanote Green line station. Once you arrive at Sunshine City it is challenging to find the aquarium. There are multiple signs with arrows indicating Sunshine Aquarium... More

This aquarium is so lovely! Like almost everything the Japanese do, it's cleverly laid out and so beautiful, with attention to detail. I spent several hours there, and it was very relaxing and entertaining. I highly recommend this attraction in Tokyo.

Staying in Ikebukuro

Neighborhood Profile
Ikebukuro is an area of massive development. Several thousand tenants occupy two giant department stores and shopping malls, where all sorts of shopping and gourmet foods can be enjoyed. The 60-story building at the east entrance of the station, Sunshine City, is a landmark within Ikebukuro and features an aquarium, planetarium, theme park as well as an observation platform. The popular name for the western side of this area is "Otome Road" (Maiden Road) and there are many shops selling products related to anime with a female theme. It has rapidly become the worldwide headquarters for ‘otaku’ or geek culture.
