It is quite an experience. I went there more for curiosity than anything else, since most of the people describe it as "the cool place to hang out if you are an old lad". It almost does not feel like being in Tokyo city

Although this place is branded for the old people and I am not so old to be a grandmother yet, I thought it would be interesting to visit the place. It is interesting, even for the very young! You can easily find the street from Sugamo station JR line central exit, just across the street to the right (north). Stroll along the street, you can categorize the shops to ones selling dried fish, tea (green tea), elderly people fashion, handicrafts and food. If you are familiar with Asian style dried fish (sometimes salted or sweetened) there are plenty... More

It is famous for selling (very sensible) red underwear, which are popular with older people who... More

It's a very interesting place. It is called "Old people's Ginza" because there is always a lot of old people but I think everyone can enjoy the "Japoneseness" of this street.

I think this place is a little junky. It is full of old people and the shops and vendors are all geared toward old people.

Sugamo is always crowded with Seniors. We call it, " Grandma's HARAJYUKU" This Senior friendly street has lots of shops with Japanese sweets, fashion and fast food.
