A fabulous building with a really well laid out exhibition of Balenciagas fashions from his early days up until he retired.

The space is surprising - a Cuban architect attached a whole new wing to a historic house, and, more than the collection, it is interesting to get to know the story of Balenciaga. Don't miss the movie presenting the life of the couturier. Unfortunately, we do not get to see parts of the old historic house, previously a Summer residence... More

We visited the museum while staying in Getaria. Balenciaga is a son of the town and spent his early career in nearby and ultra chic San Sebastian before moving to Paris. My partner who has little interest in fashion design acknowledged the iconic nature of the exhibits and we both loved the architecture! A fine piece of modern design.

Wonderful building as a starting point then an informative film in English french or Spanish about his life then the main event. So many wonderful gowns and outfits, many of which would still look fashionable today. He was a true genius designer and this museum is well worth 10 euros . There is a temporary display in the old palace... More

Good explanations in English. Pity the cafe was closed. Museum shop was slightly disappointing - they could make so much more of it.

Visited here after seeing recommendations on Trip, and was not disappointed. First thoughts, the building is impressive and worth a visit in itself, it's a very well designed and flowing museum. Second thoughts, it's expensive for north of Spain (with the exception of the Guggenheim, which I think is what allows them to charge so much), but worth it. The... More

Located right above the main area of hotels and restaurants - and easily reached by escalator - this museum is a must see for every dedicated follower of fashion. Its modern architecture and attractive displays are a true delight and beautiful testament to tis wonderfully creative designer.

Above the main road through Getaria, there's not a lot to see. The buildings are not a quaint as the medieval fortress town on the point below the road, and really, the sean and the beach are the real attraction here. But oddly enough, there's a three-tier escalator on the footpath that takes you up to the Cristobal Balenciaga Museum.... More

When in the neighbourhood of Getaria, you should definitely visit this museum. It is a very well designed building for starters. Inside there is a movie on this man's interesting life (it's in spanish, basque, French and english) and it has great exhibitions. The own collection is a rotating one we were told, so next time we're there we'll go... More

For anyone who loves fashion this museum is a must. To see the construction of garments, the use of fabric - the embroidery - fabulous!
