This impressive new hilltop museum in the lovely little town of Getaria was worth a visit as my wife has an interest in fashion history. We were staying in Zumaia only 3 miles away. Disappointing in that there is so much space but so little on show, at least when we visited. Potential to have more than just Balanciaga's work... More

The building is really cool looking from outside, I believe Balenciaga's original home is the old building, to which the new, striking, black steel and glass modern structure has been attached. It's imposing and interesting from outside and on a sunny lovely day I enjoyed sitting on the stoop of the old building looking at the view. The museum inside... More

Since I love fashion this was the museum for me. The building was beautiful the layout of the rooms were very beautiful but the fashion stole the show. There is a self guided tour which was a little hard to follow but each show case describes the fashion in English, in detail. All very interesting. There is also a little... More

It is a very well planned museum with a lot of interesting subjects for fashion concious audience. Museography is great. BTW there is an escalator to get up to the museum(steep hill) but then, the problem is coming down a lot of stairs.

Allow at least two hours to properly see the collection. Very well worth seeing, Balenciaga was a genius designer/coutourier. English audio guide that comes with entrance fee is informative. Movie presentation (very interesting) at beginning is in various languages, push the button for your language and it will tell you how long before your turn is. When I got there... More

Loved the outdoor escalators. Very stylish and interesting. Seemed a lot of empty space though.Well laid-out in a state-of-the-art building.

I'm not into fashion but my wife is (funny that!), but I found this a really interesting museum. Apart from the exhibits the building is amazing looking. After you've finished walk up the hill a bit and take a look from the viewing tower

Who would expect a museum like this in a small Basque village? Apparently the couturier Balenciaga was born in Getaria and inspired by the beautiful clothes his Mother repaired for an aristocratie family. The museum has been built connected to the home of this family, overlooking the village and the sea. The building is very beautiful with large glass windows... More

We were pleasantly surprised by how vast and modern this museum dedicated to Cristóbal Balenciaga was in this small town of Getaria. You go through about 6 rooms full of his designs through the decades, some hi-tech videos showing how a specific dress was constructed and put together, there's an intro video that can be played in various languages (Spanish,...
