This church was a lovely peaceful place and the architecture was fabulous, inside was magnificent, would have liked to have gone to a service there, but were not there on Sunday.

According to my wife ( religious), it's the bees knees. personally I thought that the Lord should have done something about the Reggie shop across the square THAT WAS BELTING OUT (MUSIC?) ALL DAY.
Not the biggest tourist attraction but worth seeing when you're around. Certainly looks nice. There's a cafe at the square and two very confortable curvy metal benches. I stayed in a hostel in front of the church and breakfast was served on a roof terrace, so I could have a closer look at the towers and the bells.
Santa maria is a beautiful church in Alicante, is in the heart of the city, a beautiful 14th century building promoted to basilica 6 years ago.
A beautiful Spanish church and one should light a candle. An insight into the wealth and power of the Catholic Church. The statues are different from what the English churchs and much more elaborate.
We managed to visit just before a mass at 11.00. The front facade is very elaborate and well preserved.
The church is situated in the old part of Alicante in a charming square. It is full of history and you get a sense of this when entering. It is very tranquil and humbling once inside. Well worth a visit
This beautiful church is situated in a square in Alicante's hilly Old Town. I was there on a Sunday and sat through part of a service. The music was led by a lady with a guitar. The nave of the church is simple stone and the altar area highly decorated.
Go on a Saturday afternoon, sit with a glass of chilled, local red in the square opposite the church, and watch the wedding parties come and go. You'll hear traditional Spanish music, see the stunning local women dressed to impress, and get a taste of real Spanish culture.
Alicante town seems reluctant to let tourists see inside its places of worship. The outside of the church is lovely and there are a couple of bars on the plaza outside so it is worth searching out if just for a chill out and to look at a lovely church facade.
