A must do if in Alicante. You can take the elevator from oppostie Playa del Postiguet but i recommend walking up from behind Hotel Maya (about 15-20 mins). The castle has parts from the 13th century and you can easily spot marks from different weapons in the walls. As I said in the header - the views are great and... More

The castle is built on a high peak right in the city. The views from the battlements are superb. The whole place has been restored sympathetically and really gives a feel for what it must originally have been like. Make sure you take the elevator up to the top and walk down, it really is a steep walk up. Ladies... More

If you choose the elevator you will have to pay 2,50€ for the ride up. It is free to walk up like we did but that is certainly not for everybody as it is VERY steep and exhausting. The elevator ride down is free. Be prepared for strong winds on the top of this must see in Alicante.

The lift takes you up about 400ft into the castle grounds where you get great views of Alicante and its harbour. Good value

Visited recently and found the castle an enjoyable few hours. Its a long long walk up from sea level therefore you may wish to take the lift up. No fee to visit however the lift is paid for.
