The Episcopal Museum of Vic (MEV), founded in 1891, houses a magnificent collection of medieval art with paintings and sculpture from the Catalan Romanesque and Gothic periods. The collections of precious metals, textiles, wrought ironwork, glass and ceramics offer a comprehensive journey through the history of liturgical and decorative art in Catalonia. This highly prized collection, including over 29,000 pieces, is exhibited in a new building on a site adjoining the cathedral, equipped with state-of-the-art exhibition facilities. Due to the exceptional interest of the museum's collections, in 2001 the museum was declared a museum of national interest by the Government of Catalonia.

Great collection of medieval art and Catalan culture in all media - painting, sculpture, glass, wrought iron. Excellent bookshop and the official guide is packed with illustrations and detailed explanations. There is also an interactive panel explaining the achievements of Bishop Oliba - a quite remarkable man.

This museum has a fabulous collection of episcopal art treasures in fabulous condition from the 11th century till modern times. Even if you don't like that sort of thing you have to marvel at the quality of the exhibits.

This new, modern, well designed museum contains a collection of catalan romanesque and gothic painting and sculpture that is beautiful and powerful. Leave your time for the romanesque and gothic art on the main floor. It is the museum's treasure. Some of the material, frescoes in reproduced apses, is a smaller version of what you can find in the MNAC... More

This collection is world class and yet on our visit (which took two hours) the museum was empty. Antiquities from Roman times to more modern are excellently displayed and curated. Stunning paintings and the rarest examples of art from the middle ages. Even if you think you will not find the religious art interesting you should give this collection a... More

Well installed medieval collections. Very helpful and friendly staff. Temporary exhibits that complement the permanent collection. Nicely designed building and exhibit rooms.

This museum has an extraordinary collection of religious romanesque artifacts equal to that of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona.

If you like Romanesque and medieval art, which admittedly isn't everyone's cup of tea, then I suspect that there is no better place to go than this. It was beautifully displayed, beautifully lit and some truly fabulous works. There are a number of amusing devils, sleeping soldiers etc to perhaps keep children amused too. The building itself was beautiful -... More

Surprisingly extensive collection of mostly medieval and Romanesque art salvaged from the churches and monasteries of the area. Some of the art work seems startlingly modern.

A beautifully designed museum by the cathedral with an excellent collection of romanesque and medieval art excellently displayed. Perhaps the best collection of its kind in Catalunya. Definitely worth seeing if you have any interest at all in the history of the area.
