This was our second visit to Dinokeng and as with everything make sure that you select the Lodge that is right fo0r you. From a farmhouse where the whole family can spend some time together to five star lodges, Dinokeng has it all. We did the farmhouse stay as one option and it worked well as this was a family... We opted for the self drive route and were told by staff that it is perfectly safe to go with our vehicle. 15min in we had a flat tyre and moved slightly of the route to a vacant area so that we don't block vehicles that wanted to pass us, while we attend to the puncture. We phoned the emergency... More

Dinokeng Game Reserve is conveniently situated for day trips, especially for those who have a day to 'kill'. One can get the feel of the veld and see a variety of wild animals in their natural habitat. Although there is the self-drive option, the animals - especially the "Big Five" are elusive and one is lucky to come across them.... More

Spent driving around the self drive route for 6 hours but we only saw the bucks and a giraffe. The area is vast, but imho the animals are few. Also, it felt rough on my pocket for an experience like this. Expect additional charges at some picnic spots, if you don't order food at their restaurants!!!

Went in 2 private vehicles equipped with 2 way radios travelling in different directions and we saw nothing much of interest. The odd buck and a few ostrich was about the sum of it. The staff are friendly and the place is scenic but thats not what I was looking for. Rather travel to Pilanesberg (outside Sun City, 1.5 hours... More

As we are a stones throw away from the Dinokeng Big 5 Game Reserve (less than 20km). We suggest to our guests to experience either self-drives or for a game drive with one of their concessioners. I have seen the game reserve go from strength to strength for more than 15 years. I am proud to be able to offer... More

Had a fantastic afternoon there seeing plenty of wildlife!! It is a fairly large area and we didn't drive through the whole park due to it being big and because there are certain areas where you have to have a high clearance vehicle to drive through. This could mean you wont see all the different animals there such as the... More

We were part of a group of family & friends who stayed at Phakama private lodge within Dinokeng Game Reserve for a birthday celebration. We rate the lodge (and reserve) as generally average. The Good: Dinokeng is within close proximity from JHB (approx 1 hour 20min drive) It boasts the big 5. Phakama lodge is a good choice for a... More
