We enjoyed the visit to the Ice Palace, with a couple of exceptions. First and foremost, we thought that the guide was very poor. Like previous reviewers, we were surprised that no headcount was taken going or out. The day we visited, the cloud was down so visibility was very poor. When we exited from the ice palace, it was... First of all it was to say the least over priced.....we only had the option of the Grand Tour so had to pay 16 Euros each plus 8 Euros for a child . The alleged 'guide' when he showed up did no introduction, did not do any check that people were suitably equipped not even a basic head count. He... More

Went here with great expectations - after all, a walk through a Glacier! First problem was that only the longer more expensive tour was available. Second problem was that there were no helmets available. Third problem was that access to the ice palace turned out to be via a 200 m stroll down an active ski slope (they didn't tell... More

I went to this while in Mayrhofen in April. Although advetised at €8 for the basic tour, this wasn't available and I had to pay €16 for the grande tour, supposedly 70 mins. If you include the ten minute walk to the entrance and back maybe. Really not sure what the difference was, most of what I saw was the... More

Says you can do it in ski boots - it's very slippy Not brilliantly lit so hard to see some things A few photo opportunities but you need to make a donation No safety ropes on ladders which kind of surprised me - not for little kids, my 9 year old was fine, my six year old didnt want to... More

I visited the Ice Palace in winter, just after the bigger section of the tour had been safety-checked and approved for all visitors. It's a guided tour of about 1 hour through some tunnels below the glacier and the comments provided by the guide (in German, at least in my case) are absolutely necessary to understand what you are looking... Don't think I was as disappointed by this as some other contributors. However, I would say this. We did the tour in hiking boots - it was quite slippery underfoot. You do have to climb up and down ladders. My daughter had the forethought to take gloves, I wish I'd done that, my hands were pretty cold by the end.... More

First I have to say the glacier is fantastic and well worth a visit! Ice Palace When I read other praising comments, I don't know if this attraction has deteriorated, or, that in summer when we went it is a completely different experience. Either way, it does not live up to the hype. However, my 15 year old daughter thought... More

I can't believe that the advertising states that you could this trip in your ski boots. I reckon they could get sued for that quote and I'm very glad we didn't wear ours. We did the tour in our hiking boots and spent the whole time slipping and sliding on the ice, crampons might have bee a better idea. Then... More

I'd looked forward to this visit for the last 4 years. Went on a very snowy day in June with my parents (in their 60's), my 7 year old daughter and my husband who's asthmatic. According to the leaflet the tour was suitable for just about anyone even those who are unfit etc. The guide spoke only German to us.... More
