If you do the walk to Orongo from Hanga Roa town centre, the Ana Kai Tangata cave is one of the first points of interest you pass as you leave town. It is directly after you pass the Hotel Iorana, across a field and down some steep steps. The crashing waves are mesmerising. On the roof of the cave are... More

Pretty impresive cave considering the easy access. It has cave paintings which have been falling during the last years. The cave is currently at risk of collapse (you can watch from the ouside without exposing yourself though), because it is an open cave close to the sea shore. Ask the locals to tell you what Ana kai tangata means, you'll... More

Walkable from the town. The steps down to the open cave are very steep but worth the descent. The cave itself is quiet open and the waves crash loudly nearby making the place very scenic. There are some cave paintings, some of which are still very clear. Definitely worth a visit for something different to Moai

Nice cave paintings in this ceremonial cave. It is easy to visit on your own without a tour. The stairs are a bit steep if you are unfit.

The short hike to this cave was interesting. The paintings on the walls are deteriorating fast! They need to preserve the paintings. If not preserved, they won't be visible in a few years! Travel now and see this spot. It's the only one of its kind on the island.

We stayed at the Iorana Hotel and this was just behind the restaurant. It was a short walk but I had to be careful as the trail was rugged and uneven. It was scenic.
