Water is warm and clear. Do have water shoes of some sort to negotiate the rocky beaches if you have tender feet

Can't say enough about this beautiful area. The entrance to the lagoon area is a beautiful drive. Our stay at Casa Aromannse was exceptional in almost every respect (minus the rooster and slow shower in the evening). Access to Masaya and Granada is very easy. Loved the hike at Mombacho Cloud Forest and the evening volcano hike......The Masaya local market... More

We visited the lagoon at the Monkey Hut on a Friday morning in May. Beautiful views driving into the crater. The lagoon is very swimmable, with the water being much better than most other Nicaraguan lakes. The beach is a little rough with black sand from the volcanic rock and a rocky lake bottom for several feet. I recommend getting... More

There are too many places for you to stay at the lagoon I stayed at El pajaro Azul, but I did not like it... so much, Pajaro Azul has a sort of rooms/cabins where you can stay but the place is not updated, it is not too clean, the shower was a mess, it has no surface space to put... More

A great place to spend your evening in Masaya, I like that this place is not only for tourist but also locals hang in there. Also is a great place to shop for souveniers prices are cheaper that at the Masaya Market. Note: There is a volcano at the bottom of the lagoon! You can also swim on a sunny... More

We enjoyed a lovely hike down to the lagoon and found the monkeys! I found myself slightly bored once at the lagoon, but I'm not a big swimmer. Could be fun for some. This blog post shows what we did. http://adventuresofacouchsurfer.com/2015/02/06/hiking-in-an-extinct-volcano-to-apoyo-lagoon/

We have been to the Monkey Hut Hostel for one day to relax there at the beach. The entrance was about 7$. It was a really relaxing day there. Nice water to swim there.

The Lagoon is beautiful... Perfect water temperature... So clear and peaceful... Just nice to float around or rent a paddle board or just hang out on the little deck to swim too. I would go again in a hot second !!!!!

All descriptions I've read describe the lake as crystal clean, however it wasn't nearly as pristine as I had expected. The beach was kind of dirty. For anyone who has access to a cottage in Canada or USA for at least a couple days in the summertime, I would say that Apoyo is like being at a cottage, but not... More
