Visited Bolton Abbey station which is very interesting with much to see including future plans but very disappointed that no steam was running only diesels, I appreciate that problems can arise but a steam railway without steam is not a steam railway

We had a train ride from Embsay to the abbey. Sadly only diesel as no steam train. Staff were very friendly helpful and informative. Ride last about 15 mins and longer when you come back. with the walk 2 the abbey this made this into a really good day out. Nice cakes in the tea shop and we were allowed... More

I recently had the chance to take a trip on the Bolton Abbey Railway. It is not a large railway but a pleasant one. with steam and diesel engines. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my time there and would recommend a visit.

Made the journey from Bolton Abbey to Embsay and back. A enjoyable hour taking a trip being pulled along by an authentic steam engine with historic rolling stock. Not sure if there is wheelchair access but husband uses a stick and he was able to access the carriage easily.

Great little station in Embsay village, we took a ride from Bolton Abbey Station (which is a pleasant mile and half walk from the Abbey) to Embsay station, about 4 miles £6 one way for adults. Well worth it if you like steam trains.

My wife and I arrived when no platform staff were in evidence, so not obvious were to buy a platform ticket. We intended to go on the train, but in the meantime, I made some purchases in the shop. I left the platform to place my books in the car, but was prevented from returning to my wife, who was... More

it has its quirks does this one, timetables are more of a guide than a stone tablet and the people manning the trains and the stations are wonderful. plenty of photo opportunities and some very interesting plans and engines . . . the future looks good.

The website shows pictures of lovely countryside on your journey. There isn't any. Unless you call rusty paint cans. An old caravan and a sewer amongst the highlights. Save your money for other heritage railways as this is the worst.

I am sure that the volunteers do an excellent and enthusiastic job in trying to maintain an historic artifact, the Guard on the train was no more than 12 years old!, and although the round trip of an hour was interesting the line does not pass through any of the beautiful countryside that is so characteristic of this part of... On our way to see the NRM in York, we stumbled across this little gem of a heritage railway. Friendly staff in a slightly worn but attractive setting. We didn't ride (time constraints) but were enthralled by the displays and the little snack bar and gift shop. Just a pound to get in, it was well worth every pence just... More
