Visited Gramvousa on a combined Balos excursion. It was a warm day but not exhaustingly hot. The boat docked in the most stunning lagoon - it was so beautiful, you could mistake it for tropical waters. The trek up to the fortress is rather pretty tiring and takes about 15-20 mins depending on your pace. Once you are up there,... More

The day trip by ferry is what makes this site. Getting to the beach, doing some swimming. Getting to the fortress itself requires a steep climb on uneven rocks, definitely not for the very young or old or those who wear flip flops. The ruins off the fortress are extensive in area but not in good condition. The most impressive... More

Pretty cool fortress to check out but be prepared to do some steps to see it. Very wide open once you're at the top. I was a little afraid that coming down would be pretty hard as the height of the steps seem pretty steep but it really was pretty easy. Views are spectacular.

Uphill dusty hike - but easily do-able for most levels of fitness Fabulous views - 360 degrees! Lovely to cool off in sea after coming back down

As mentioned before, the climb to the fortress is not for the faint-hearted - lots of big steps and loose under foot. Having said that all of the flip-flop brigade made it, one carrying a baby! The views from the top are fantastic and interesting to think of the Venetian officers billeted there and the foot soldiers. It must have... More

We took the boat tour but half-way through the climb, I decided to stop. I think this is not a safe climb and would not recommend it, because people are careless and accidents may happen because someone rushes in.

One of the best natural places in Crete. The lagoon and the sea have incredibile colors. You have to see it to understand how it can be amazing.

It was rather slow going as there were literally about 350+ people walking up to it. Again, a good suggestion is to wear sensible and safe walking shoes, Flip flops are not advised. Beautiful views from the top. If not in a fit condition, I'd recommend you stay at the bottom and paddle in the sea.

Luckily I left wife and kids at beach, so I could climb up there fast and easy. The "stairs" were unstable stones, if the stones were stable, they were slippery, as so many feet had stepped at them. Up there the sight was great, and it would be nice to see how it looked originally, and read more about it... More

Located on the island of Gramvoussa, also with a beatiful beach, the fearry stops some time on this beach, and you can climb to the top of the hill
