It was rather slow going as there were literally about 350+ people walking up to it. Again, a good suggestion is to wear sensible and safe walking shoes, Flip flops are not advised. Beautiful views from the top. If not in a fit condition, I'd recommend you stay at the bottom and paddle in the sea.

Luckily I left wife and kids at beach, so I could climb up there fast and easy. The "stairs" were unstable stones, if the stones were stable, they were slippery, as so many feet had stepped at them. Up there the sight was great, and it would be nice to see how it looked originally, and read more about it... More

Located on the island of Gramvoussa, also with a beatiful beach, the fearry stops some time on this beach, and you can climb to the top of the hill

First and most important thing to mention is - take regular shoes there. Really. I've seen girls in flip-flops or sandals trying to get to the fortress and I was really worried they will get hurt. The path really needs normal shoes (thanks to advice, we did take them and were truly happy we had them). You might want to... More

Had no idea my Balos cruise was stopping at Gramvousa Fortress. Hiked up in my flip flops and was well worth it (I Recommend wearing shoes). Fortress built by the Venetians and later used by the Turks and Greeks. Once you get to the top take a few seconds and process the unreal view.

The venetian fortress was beautiful, nice view from up there, but we had to take turns to climb due to we found the stone stairs not safe for little kids. We tried to chill out a bit in the beach, but found plenty of sea urchins hidden in the stones ready to sting your feet.

This is well worth the hot climb! We had a private boat and arrived before it got too busy. You do need fairly decent shoes for the climb up as it is rocky and quite steep. The view from the top is amazing and the swim at the bottom was a great reward!

This trip is usually combined with a trip to Balos bay. An hour and a half is as much as you want to climb up to the top of the ruined fortress. The views are stunning when you get there, but maybe I'm allergic to being herded around with hundreds of other people

It is included in the organized Balos boat trips and I'm glad it is. I actually liked the fortress and the beach more than Balos itself. The beach has sea urchins so do watch out. Same as with Balos: breathtaking but not a kid-friendly place.

Totally worth a visit up to the fortress, but only if you wear snickers because the path is slippery.it will take you about 15-20 minutes to climb up the hill, but the view from the fortress is breathtaking!if you wear slippers, i would suggest that you stay by the beach and swim in the crystal clear waters,or even take some photos...
