The beach and lagoon are amazing and beautiful. The only issue was it was so windy that it was impossible to enjoy. Many people were taking shelter in the little cafe on the beach. The wind howled with a noise that made it impossible to relax or sleep and then the sand constantly blasting us made us want to leave... More

MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH I’VE EVER BEEN TO! IF DRIVING, LIKE US: We used google maps/ gps. Add 30 mins to your calculations, the last part of drive does not work on the google maps. Follow E75-90 east bound. Highway name will change to something like E67-90 after Heraklion, before Chania, keep going. Highway will end on it’s own & turn... More

Balos beach is very beautiful with shallow crystal clear water. You need to walk a lot in the water if you want to swim. The lagoon itself is not very pleasant - water is very shallow and hot, and smells like sulfur. Access by boat is slow - 1 hour from port of Kissamos, and 10 minutes walking among the... More

Balos beach was known to very few locals until a couple of decades ago. The first time I went there I was astonished by the beathtaking scenary, the clear warm waters of the lake and the sea. Everytime I visit since then, I am disappointed to see that the place is slowly deteriorating. The first thing that comes to mind... More

We drove up then walked down. It was a beautiful place. You can get a drink, but not much else. So take something with you. 2 sun beds and a umbrella for €6. Literally crawled back up the hill. Worth it though.

Wonderful unique place. I took the boat to go there, it was windy and the trip was not very pleasant, I will take the car, there are good enough roads to go there and stay as long as you want

We chose to drive to Balos from Chania; we were glad we did as the the route was very scenic. There is no denying Balos is spectacular and should be on everyone's 'to visit list' however visiting is an adventure! If driving, the last 4 miles are over a gravelly, stoney mountainous 'road', scary in places but with careful driving... More

we got there by boat from kissamos port. the boat is very short and the feeling once you get there is really amazing. the waters are so shallow, warm, almost white, the sand is super thin, and the barren mountain view contrasting with the serene, crystal clear sea is breathtaking. one can swim there for hours.. make sure you get... We drove here using our hire car which worked well. It us a long drive on a well maintained but unmade road. You need to be a confident driver. You pay one euro per person in car. The walk down is steep but easy to do and the view is gorgeous. Coming back up was hard going but worth while... More

Travelled from kissamos by boat ( 25 euros ) and worth every penny. One of the most idyllic places we have ever visited.
