Spent Sunday at this nice floating market. Started from Sukhumvit Phrom Phong BTS to Victory Memorial to catch the minibus that cost only 160B for 1-2 hours travel to outskirt Amphawa floating market. From there you can join the river boat tour for 50B to visit surrounding temples. Plenty of seafood to enjoy like prawns, crabs, fish, scallops, cuttlefish, etc... More

Nice place to visit. They take us in small rowing boats,in the surroundings small houses, markets, food places. But the Water of the lake is very very dirty. There are many Food joints but we doubt the hyigene as saw few cooks taking ware from dirty lake and wash utensils with dirty water. So many shops around, advisable to go early as it really gets noisy and... This market was nice. The boat ride down the river and around was very nice. The massage shop here was one of the best we found in Thailand. The food was also good and made on the boats in the water.

Our tour gave us a glimpse of Thai speed boats in the canals, but it was the Floating Market that was the most fascinating. All of the various wares - food, clothing, household items, etc. - are sold from the boats. Just packing everything on to one of the small boats is an art! Also, the stores on the docks... More

I've been here a few times over the years and I enjoy it every time. I learn new things every time I go. For example, you don't need to pre-book your hotel; there are plenty of rooms to rent along the river and canal when you get there. Don't make your decision too soon and take your time to look... Don't book any trip in advance!!! 1° Get a place near the canals. 2° Get lost around. 3° Around 18:00 book the fireflies tour... 4° Be there at 6AM fire the merit making with the monks on boats... We booked a guesthouse direct at the canal: they organised all for us. Massage on boat, fireflies and offerings for the monks!... More

If you have the time, take a tour through the floating markets. This seems to be the "happening spot" for all the locals to party on the weekends and it's very lively at night, mellow during the day. Our tour was over an hour boat ride and the first 45 min was through a more remote and primitive village, then... More

We booked an excursion from Hua Hin for 2,200 baht per person. We had a private guide and driver. We were picked up at 12.30 - firstly we visited the Maeklong Railway market (unfortunately the trains are not running until March 2016 as they are repairing the track but nevertheless this is worth a visit). Then we went onto Amphawa... More
