It took about 10 minutes to walk down the stairs to reach the temple. I was given a sarong to cover my legs (donation appreciated). When we visited, there were not too many people here and this added to the atmosphere of the temple. We visited a small waterfall which was about 300 metres walk away, walking on the side... More

Breathtaking views as you go down all these steps, then the ancient temples carved in the rocks on either side of the valley, mystical caves, waterfall as you follow the little creek upriver a bit, after climbing up again there is this amazing cafe left on top of the stairs with its good healthy snacks, while you enjoy the great... I have just been to Tampaksiring again. Gunung Kawi is one of the most beautiful places on the planet. When in Bali I often go to this temple. But my most favorite part is KAFE KAWI at the top of the steps. This Kafe's location is mind blowing and the views are jaw droppingly amazing. And as if that was... More

21March2012, be prepare to have a climbing down stairs about 300+. But our driver and guide very attentive because this place was taken in the morning(our 3rd stop, after goa gajah). This is not for the faint-hearted - there are 315 steps down, and then up again. They are large steps, slipppery in the rain, and in the humidity this is exhausting unless you are fit. There are stalls all along the way, continuously wanting to sell you drinks, coconut, T-shirts, sarongs etc. when all you want to do is rest!... More

This attraction seems to be terribly overlooked. When we visited, we only saw one other couple there. This is the only temple I visited which you could actually walk into, plus the ruin carvings in the mountainside are awesome. However, travellers should be advised that the walk down is quite steep and breathtakingly beautiful. More

Beautiful steep walk down to the rock cut candis and monk cells. On the way look out for locals selling drinks you will need one with the heat of the walk - I was shattered on the way back. They also sell spices and the civet cat coffee which is delicious. More

This 11th century temple was a fascinating sight especially with rock carvings that are carved right out of the cliffs. These carvings probably measure about four times the height of a person and it is quite amazing to wonder how they were constructed a thousand years ago. To get down to the area where the carvings exist, you have to... More

We went there few days ago and it was unfortunately raining, but we still visit anyhow, which turn out to be worth it. Howevet I won't recommend this place for those to hate climbibg stairs as you need to climb quite a bit to reach the main attraction. Won't get bored climbing though as you can see sone shops and... We adored this beautiful stone temple and gardens. The walk down the steps is not difficult but bring a bottle of water for the way back up! Both men and women need a sarong to enter the temple but these can be borrowed free of charge (or for a small donation) near the entrance to the temple. More
