Visit during a festival!

Castle Road is filled with shops and restaurants. The best burgers in Hikone are in a little street side cafe here! The best time to visit is during a festival.

Near the área, of Hikone castle, you can also visit "castle road" which will give you a small view of and ancient castle town. In autumn the road was looking great with the color of the leafs.

Nice road to take pictures with traditional looking buildings stretching down the whole road. This road is right beside Hikone Castle. So you can easily reach this road after visiting Hikone Castle. There are many shops along the road and you can buy Japanese souvenirs. There are some snacks stores and restaurants along this road but unfortunately I did not... More

Hikone isn't a metropolis, but this street offers an interesting array of eating and shopping options. Not much English is spoken, but don't let that deter you. A good thing to do after you've been to the castle.

This small shopping district near the castle has retained a lot of traditional charm and is a great place just to meander or to pick up souvenirs, mostly of the food kind. In summer, there is a wonderful festival where residents wander the streets in summer kimono, just enjoying the atmosphere. ^^

Purpose built tourist strip with little soul but plenty of souvenirs. Spend your money at the real shops in the town centre instead.
