Hirado is not exactly on the beaten track for visitors to Japan, but it is a lovely island with an interesting past. As Nagasaki is not so far, and that is one of my favourite destinations in Japan, then Hirado should come into your calculations -- especially if you are already familiar with Japan's better-known places.
