Take the walk around the bay to the aquarium and nabetahama beach. Perry road is not very long but the houses are interesting and there are a couple of temples in the area.

Gorgeous walkway along the river that runs into the ocean has tons of huge fish in it and has a park at the end of the walkway with the hydrangea garden.

Guess one must know a little bit more about Japanese history to appreciate the historic value of Shimoda City. The fish lunch was very wonderful though.

Historic walkway with Temple at the end. A few Nic nack shops. The cute cafés and bars in the area make it a worthwhile visit.

A short and pleasant walk where you can experience some of the history of the opening of Japan to the rest of the world.

Admiral Perry Road represented to me a legacy of history between America and Japan since it officially began over 160 years years ago. I was truly impressed..

Perry road is a nice walk from the port and Perry monument to the Ryosin-ji temple. Very piqturesque and an air of old Japan.

We had just arrived in Shimoda and looked at Ryosenji Temple where the trade treaty was signed and walking along a small laneway at the back we suddenly and delightfully burst into the Perry Road enclave. It is like a little a pretty little private village with the small stream, stone bridges and is lined with old buildings, shops and... More

I blame the hype, but when I arrived in Izukyu Shimoda I had a look around and was disappointed. The stuff promoting it on the Internet, saying that if you were only going to one place in the Izu Peninsula it had to be Izukyu Shimoda, got me really excited; perhaps too much – the seaside town left me confused.... A helpful brochure in English obtained at the railway station pointed out the historical sights in this town and a huge map put up along the way gave clear directions to Perry Road and the landing point. You have to walk quite a distance to reach the landing site of the Black Ships but the directions are clear and it's... More
