This is such a great way to see the sounds! Jim and Penny are such kind people and really put their hearts into this job to show guests a good time. They have so much knowledge to share. I learned a great deal and had an absolute blast getting to know the managers. We saw seals and dolphins! Great day...one... More

We went out on the mail boat on a great sunny day with high expectations and we were not disappointed! The trip was amazing all around! Our skipper was amazing, very funny and entertaining, he threw one story after the next at us, one more interesting than the next. The scenery you will see on this trip is about as... More

With my husband and 20 other Lions from around the region we boarded the Mail Boat with Jim as our Captain. It was a beautiful day and our trip was made more interesting by the commentary from Captain Jim. We saw the Gannet sanctuary, going in very close and then to seal our day. Jim found us a huge pod... One of the must-do activities in Havelock!! Friendly welcome by Jim the skipper with smiles. I went on 31st July 2014, Thursday (Historic Run) as it has the best weather of the week. Jim explained very well the mail delivery history of the Marlborough Sounds. Interesting mail delivery system I had ever seen, people living in the Marlborough Sounds area,... More

We went on this trip after having it recommended to us by other NZ friends. It was great. We found it to be informative and relaxing. We learnt about a different pace of life and lifestyles of those living on the pelorus sound. Ian & penny were great hosts with some great stories too. Highly recommend however small children may... Jim and Penny balance the needs of tourists with those of the isolated inhabitants effortlessly. Not only do you get insights to why and how people live there but also the flora, fauna, wildlife and history. There is plenty of additional material on board and you can ask questions. However we were supremely lucky to see three types of dolphins,... More

We just got back from this tour today (5th August 2014). We were so impressed with this tour that I had to write a review on it straight away. In a nutshell, this tour is more of an experience than a tourist activity. Firstly, the Pelorus Mail Boat is exactly that - it is the mail service for people that... More
