Reasonable prices (for the NW Arctic), friendly service, and good food can be found at the Empress. Oh, and there's a million dollar view of Kotzebue Sound that restaurants in the lower 48 would die for. The Empress sure doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's warm inside and it's got some of the best food in town.... more

The Nullagvik Hotel in Kotzebue is showing its age and getting ready to close, but the good news is that a new hotel is being constructed next door to replace it. As of the last week of Sept 2008, the foundation work was just being done. Prices in Kotzebue have taken a jump lately, and the Nullagvik is no exception.... more

Plane schedules to Kotzebue are not posted. Only to Fairbanks. Best time of year to fly are not posted. One hotel , the only hotel in Kotzebue, AK, is full all year around apparently, but I don't believe it - availability dates are not posted. This is not a place where one just gets on a plane to Fairbanks, AK,... more

No frills says it pretty well. "Nullagvik" means "a place to sleep," and by that scale this is much more than I expected. I did not expect color cable TV, phones, hair dryer, coffee maker, hot showers, and I wasn't too sure about electric lights although they were not needed. I thought it was great compared to my expectations, and... more

This hotel is a no frills type of place. The rooms are generally clean and usually have a comfortable bed. There is not much in the way of security and there is only so much the staff of one can do after hours. There is cable TV, with a limited selection of channels. A seasonal restaurant is run by a... more

Considering the location, not a bad hotel. Built like a college dorm, the room was clean, the bed comfortable (no headboard!), and the shower hot with plenty of water.Rate seemed a bit pricey, but there is not much competition for hotels/motels in Kotzebue. On a side note, I am not crazy about multistory hotels that do not have elevators. Finally, it is... more
