Nicely decorated, and conveniently located to Old Salem and downtown Winston, the Brookstown Inn was a pleasant way to escape our daily DC routine without having to drive miles to get to either. We were there this evening for the 1st time. Convenient location off Peters Creek Parkway at Clemmonsville/Old Salisbury rd. We tried jallapeno poppers for appetizer, a "medium" (17 INCH) pizza (1/2 Bambino's special - 1/2 ham and pineapple), souvlaki chicken salad, 12 " Philly steak sub, 4 soft drinks and a cannoli. The ambience of the place is much better now that they've remodeled it, but the food is still just comfortably average. I wish they had undertaken a similar revamping of their food preparation. The items that are purportedly their signature items-the wings and the chili-have never impressed me. Off the top of my head I could instantly name 3 restaurants... more
