I can only guess this hotel saw better days 15 - 20 years ago. The halls smelled of mildew, the room are in desperate need of refurbishing, the sheets were dirty, and the buffet breakfast seemed to contain what could only be described as leftovers from the night before (sweet and sour chicken, some type of meat with pepper for... more

The winding road up was quite terrible since I suffer from motion sickness. It's good to go on an early trip since there is a schedule for the one-way (traffic) use of the road up the hill, called the "The Gap". My minor headache disappeared the moment we reached the end of the "The Gap", into the little town of... more

We stayed at The Olde Smokehouse for one night as a weekend away from KL. It has beautiful surroundings, amazing views and so peaceful, the climate is a pleasant change from the humidity of the rest of Malaysia too. On arrival to the hotel you are welcomed with a smile and very attentive staff, being familiar with normal Malaysian customer... more

Just back from a Chinese New Year break in Malaysia. Spent one night at The Smokehouse and it didn't disappoint. Yes it's a bit shabby round the edges and there were a few more ants that I would have liked in the bathroom, but that just adds to its faded colonial charm. It was extremely comfortable and quaint. The staff... more

Stayed in a 2 room apartment for 3 nights. You cannot imagine how rundown the place has become. A pity, since the development commands a fantastic location in the highlands. It is a huge development sitting on a ridge overlooking the town, and is shrouded in mist for a large part of the day. We were there up till the... more

The Drive Up - Via Karak/Bentong or Kuala Kubu Bharu? I found the route via Karak/Bentong is longer but a little less winding. Will help if your passengers suffer from motion sickness. However, the last leg of Kuala Kubu Bahru route feature beautiful scenery of the lake/dam. In addition, this route passes several small town, which may slow you down... more

I had wanted to go to Fraser's Hill for a long time and it did not disappoint. It is very simply and very quiet. However, the misty green scenery is very moving and atmospheric. The walks were a bit muddy but enjoyable. So long as you are not an action (or sophistication junkie) and are after a peaceful weekend, this... more

We decided to stay at the Smokehouse after stopping by the property for tea and scones when we arrived in Fraser Hill. They had family suites that was big enough for 2 adults and 2 kids. The suite was big and very clean. Toilets were clean and well maintained. Bed and sheets were clean and comfortable. Probably the best compare... more

Stayed there for 2 days. Booked a room with golf course view for RM207 per night with 2 single beds. I had a good first impression of Shahzan Inn compared to other hotels in Fraser Hill. However, the door lock was jammed and we had to call the maintenance to open the door for us. Even though the maintenance person... more

I have been here twice. The room (studio) is okay; spacious, only that it needs more cleaning especially the way up to the room. The place to park the car (below the building - stilts) has pools of water and make the place so wet and dirty. Should provide indoor slippers because the kitchen is tiled and it is very... more

The local district council owns a couple of blocks on this apartment- styled hotel. We booked a two-bedroom apartment from the district council at a much cheaper rate (RM165) than the privately run management (RM260). The hotel is kind of run down but provides the basic necessities -beds with clean sheets, toilet with hot bath, living room with sofa and... more

I took my family here for dinner and found the food good though not exceptional. The colonial ambience here is relaxing but my experience here was spoiled by two issues: 1) The captain was rather snobbish and looked slightly bored. I suppose he wanted to project that aura of a very expensive and very fine cuisine restaurant for the very... more

Missed out on a guided trek of this trail some weeks back and a friend who has been voluntered to lead. Started from Kuala Lumpur at 7.00 am after breakfast. The road to Fraser's Hill in itself an attraction, especially the stretch after the town of Kuala Kubu Bharu - it winds round a big lake created by the new... more

Wonderful childhood memories of vacations in mock tudor private bungalows in Frasers :) This hotel reeks colonial nostalgia. It's old-fashionedly charming as is the menu. But the cooking - barely passable :( more

The hotel was huge but deserted. The rooms were of a good size but old fashioned and smelt of damp. They had a fabulous view from one side but a brick wall at the other. The place was generally run down and neglected, and the menu was limited and only in Malaysian. The staff were helpful and friendly though. more

Stayed here for two nights in July 2008. Overall, the reception and hotel staff were helpful and friendly. They had a number of trainee staff who were eager to please. Rooms were clean, and the amenities adequate. The included daily buffet breakfast was ample. We enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The rate we paid was rm110 nett per room... more

Just about 2 hours from the hussle and bussle of the KL town you'll find Frasers Hill. a little hill that sits spread out over 7 hills on the Tahan mountain range. Decided to take my parents for a weekend break to celebrate my dad's birthday and it was a good trip. booking the rooms and securing them was easy.... more

We had a very pleasant stay in the Smokehouse. It was an easy drive up from KL and good to see some of the countryside on the way. The hotel makes a change from your standard international business hotel. The best way I can think to describe it is "Colonial meets a Malaysian interpretation of an English theme pub". Our... more

I have stayed now and 2 years ago in this hotel when it was newly reopened and they asked at that time 110.- The top floor and the lobby were than newly renovated. The lift smelled already moldy. this is still the case. Lift with carpet all around will always smell in this climate. The hotel is the former Merlin... more

We went to Bukit Fraser for a week end with 2 young children. Overall experience was nice, cooler than in KL ( around 25 degrees ), horseriding, little boat trip on the lake, going for a walk without sweating, nice birds around and VERY QUIET. We stayed at the Pines Resort, cheap, large rooms but a bit grotty and run... more
