My wife and I went to Baalbek for the weekend at the end of Nov. 2009. Went and ate at Al-Nawras Restaurant twice. Once for lunch and the next day for breakfast. We stayed at the Hotel Jupiter for two nights over the last weekend in November 2009. The hotel is located right across from the ruins and a couple doors down from the Hotel Palmyra (which looked like it was an abandoned building, dark and empty). I am very surprised that this is Lonely Planets reccommended hotel in their Lebanon guide. Yes it is 'atmospheric' and frankly pretty weird but at $50 a night to have no hot water morning or evening is too basic. It's actually rather creepy at night especially with no other guests around and the view of the ruins isn't that special.... more
