I lived in Angola for 9 years until 2004 and my office was close by the Meridien (as it used to be called). In those days it had a fearsome reputation as a down at heel destination favoured by those who couldnt get in to the better hotels closer to the town centre. Well, nothing has changed since I left... more

If you are headed to Luanda, Hotel Continental is a fine choice for a business traveler. Pros -- Clean room with comfortable bed with soft sheets and no bed bugs -- A/C in room -- Free wireless internet -- Room service that is prompt and courteous -- Hot water with a nice shower head -- Good gym in the hotel... more

I had a suite which was very spacious and had great views. Food was okay, good location for getting to the restaurants and bars of the Isla, bar and sunbathing on the roof were nice. A bit old and dated but pleasant and fine for Luanda. more

This hotel is okay but I'll be happy when there's more choice in Luanda. Its clean and the pool and spa and gym are great. Room service takes a long time and check in and out takes forever. But its okay and good selection of drinks and restaurants. more

I stayed here for one night as part of a corporate retreat. It was delightful. The lodge is right on the Kwanza River on a spit of land which is also lapped by the Atlantic. There are good quality wooden cabins with twin or queen sized beds with en suite shower and toilet and a veranda over looking the Kwanza... more

Finding hotel rooms in Luanda is a challenge these days, with so much oil business going on. Prices for even a simple hotel will be in excess of $200 / night. The Continental is not a bad hotel, nor is it great. This was my first stay in Luanda so I can't compare to others in the city. Reception area... more

I was in Luanda for two weeks through work and found this hotel to be very good. With bad traffic though allow alot of time to get anywhere! The hotel offered nice food, clean rooms and a lovely sauna / health sevice area which was a nice treat. The meals in the restaurants were nice and fairly priced to the... more

A group of 6 of us stayed for 2 nights, mostly we had rooms on the 21st floor. The rooms where comfortable and clean. The food in the resturant was very good with plenty of selection on the buffet and the al a carte menu although a little expensive. Drinks in the bar are expensive but found a bar round... more

Le Presidente is a little faded, a little broken down, but comfortable and totally appropriate for business trips to Angola. Those seeking 5 star luxury need to await further development. The guests are mainly foreign business people, many involved in the oil industry (I am not). The rooms are more than adequate and the food is generally quite good in... more

I was in Luanda to do a concert in July {the 1st}. The hotel was wonderful albeit a bit pricey in the Bar. The lunch buffet was incredible with chilled Lobster Tails and a huge variety of Western Culinary delights. The rooms were comfortable and the internet service was adequate. I recommend this hotel above all others in Luanda!! more

Firstly, this hotel is no longer part of the "Le Meridien" chain - it is now simply Hotel Presidente. I stayed here for 2 nights on a business trip to Angola, and was told by colleagues beforehand about it and kind of knew what to expect. They advertise the hotel as a 4-star (and the signage outside the hotel, stationery,... more

I do know in wich city some of the people of other reviews were. I walked a lot in Luanda, nobody bother me, I carry a photo camera and a small backpac, of course you must be caution but it is not a terrible place to be. The bay of Luanda is just beautiful and the beach a few miles... more

As I travel extensively in Africa, I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel considering that it is not internationally branded. Check-in was swift, efficient and welcoming with English being no problem at all. My standard double room was very pleasantly decorated in a modern imperial style with all the mod cons of stocked minibar, IDD phone and Sat TV (with... more

We were in Luanda for 3 years and stayed over at Jembas, Massula 3 times. You can get a boat there from the city, they go backwards and forwards all day long. You can visit for a day or stay over. Each time we visited we stayed over in little chalets, which are in a lovely setting with little walkways... more

We were in Luanda for 3 years and tried on a number of occassions to visit this museum. Every visit we made or anyone we knew made we were told the museum is closed for refurbishment and will open next week. Over a 3 year period they told us the museum would re open next week and it never did. more

The price is sky high, the rating very low. I can not complain about the service because there is no service. The swimming pool, I could not find it. I asked for a LAN cable, got it the next day. The breakfast, just go without it. I spoke to the manager about it all and more, all I got from... more

Absolutely loved Angola. We chose the Alvalade as it was the one of the new hotels and was available for a 3 week visit. The rate we paid for December was $265 per night which is extremely expensive, but we were warned that we had to pay for the best hotel as less well known ones did not have back... more

I had heard that the Tropico was the best in Luanda and a 4 star property. It is but it is not a Western 4 star. Though the reception staff are overworked--the hotel is very busy with many companies taking block bookings throughout the year to accomodate staff--they try hard as do the rest of the staff. Security is good... more

I understand that you need to give at least 2 months notice to get into one of the “main” hotels in Luanda and the company couldn’t get me in anywhere other than Fleuma. I was told the hotel is very new but it didn’t really feel like it. It is close to the airport (as you can tell from the... more

I dont think anyone goes to Luanda unless they have to, but if you do wind up there for whatever reason the Hotel Tropico is probably the place to stay. Nice rooms and the food is pretty good. The front dest staff were great. I lost a suitcase on a domestic flight there, if you fly in Angola you must... more
