My family and myself (includes a husband and a Son then aged 14) did the three night lapland package with First Choice in December 2007. I have to say that right from when we checked in for our flight from Gatwick the experience was magical. The check in staff wore Santa hats and were in fine spirits - good considering... more
We have been traveling up north with tent, but weather didn't really play with us, so in Yllas we went to find hotel. And it was THE hotel. It was summer season, and prices were much lower then in winter, so they were really low for this what you get. Location, even in summer, is great with few 100m to... more
"The Old Mine" (or Wanha Kaivoskyla if you're fluent in Finnish) is a unique property (of a hostel quality), located in nearly uninhabited woods surrounding Rovaniemi. The Santa Claus town itself is approx. 70 kms away. Bedrooms are quite clean, and extremely basic - do not forget that you'll be staying in the middle of nowhere. You'll get a bed,... more
I've been there many times I think during my every summer holiday since 1998. I really wonder some negative comments here. As a Finn coming from Helsinki they look like very strange to me like somebody had written them using different names. Also some comments seem to be written from somewhere else than Wild Lapland. Wild Lapland is a really... more
We stayed at the hotel 21st dec to 24th dec leaving it late in the hope of making christmas more magical for the children ( age 3 and 7). The hotel looked tired when we arrived no Christmas atmosphere at all. Rooms were very basic with lethal steep staircase to childrens accomodation. We travelled with first choice so had taster... more
We spent 4 days in Lapland and this hotel was a great base for us. The staff were friendly and spoke good English, free internet access and the rooms were very clean. The TV in our room had several English channels too. Check out the lifts which have massive pictures of Santa and Rudolph. The morning breakfasts were brilliant with... more
Good hotel in Rovaniemi town centre . Excellent restaurant(taste tha salmon) with nice view over the river. Very good breakfast. Room was a bit small ,the bathroom was spaciouse and very new. Good staff. more
We travelled to Luosto during the February half term and stayed at the Luosto Tunturi Hotel. As we have two children we treated ourselves to one of the larger suites which was great: two bedrooms, a large lounge, kitchenette, shower and toilet and even our own sauna - bliss! I even took advantage of the fabulous spa facilities and the... more
We were on a cross-country skiing package, for which the hotel was ideally placed. Fantastic value: there was no need to spend anything once we were there. The self-service breakfasts and evening meals were delicious and there was no limit on how much one could take. The free beverages included the hotel's own ale. (The coffee and tea were rubbish... more
58 of us travelled in December with First Choice Hoildays - the flight was excellent with entertainment and singing all the way ( i didn't take kids) but they were all so excited. We were met by our elves ours was called christmas star and she was a delight, really cheerful and happy with lots of stories for the kids.... more
Clothing and equipment supplied were absolutely spot-on,Was never once cold in hotel,If anything a bit too hot,Food was good,Good variety and eat all you can !!! The only criticism i would have is the excursions are a little expensive and there is no Cash point machine !!! ,I went on a winter holiday with Going places,,,,But had a wonderful time... more
We went to Lapland for the children to visit Santa and to have a good family holiday. The advertising and expectations we had were to lead to massive disappointment. The owner, Veli, was a nightmare and definitely in the wrong job, as dealing with customers, or even humans, seemed to be beyond him. His staff seemed to dislike him as... more
We booked in early 2008 for our trip which started on 21st Feb 2009, we decided that we wanted to go skiing for our honeymoon and decided on something different so booked to go here - we are so please we did. Firstly the not so good points - Finland is not a cheap place to go and with the... more
March 2009 was my third stay in three years at this hotel and overall it is a comfortable hotel suitable for those wanting to have a fabulous time on the slopes. The location is five minute walk to the front piste - not a problem unless you have lots of equipment / children to transport! You can either store ski... more
We stayed here in February 09. The main advantage of these challets is its location. Very close to the supermarket, a 5 minute walk to the bottom of the slopes - although seems more like 15 when carrying skis (in restrospect we should have hired a locker at centre point) and also quite close to the frozen lake for Northern... more
My family has just come back from spending 7 nights over Christmas in Rovaniemi - 2008. Our children's ages are 18mnths, 4 and 7. I was imaging (from all the promotional material) a magical land of Christmas with the ultimate being getting a present from the real Father Christmas. The Hotel Santa Claus was fine as facilities/cleanliness goes however all... more
We travelled to Levi on Easter Sunday and stayed in the Levilehto chalets. The purpose of our trip was to get married at the Lainio Snow Village at Kittila. We had a wonderful time, the chalets were perfect, we stayed in a two bedroom one for 4 to 6 people, it was perfect for a family of four and nice... more
we stayed in the levi chalets in december 08, and to say it was disguistingly filthy would honestly be an understatment, the cleaners really need a good kick up the [--], we had broken glass in the sofa bed in the front room, blood stains on the matress upstairs in the mezzanine, and a completely smashed bathroom sink, and beleive... more
The rooms are reasonably sized with 2 single beds - not the most comfortable, but OK. The bathroom was nicely sized and clean with a shower and an ensuite sauna for 2. The food was excellent, although you need to be prepared for food that you don't see much at home. A liking for pickled fish and reindeer will help.... more
