Summerhill is a fantastic place to stay. We could not have been made more welcome by our hosts: the lovely homemade cake on arrival was a real treat. Very warm welcome and a lovely room overlooking the lake, we spent most of the time out walking but with a cosy, relaxed atmosphere to turn to was a pleasure after some chilly wet weather. We only stayed at Compston House for one night but it was a great place to stop. Ambleside is bursting at the seams with B&B's and we have stayed in 3 or 4 now and Compston is certainly one of the better ones. The welcome from the owners, Gerry and Sue, was as warm as you can get. They couldn't... more
