Can't wait to go back! We stayed 2 nights at the main lodge and despite rainy weather, it was an awesome visit. Had a room in the main lodge which meant we shared bath/shower, but had our own sink in our room. Room had queen bed w/2 chairs and desk - and was very nice. Spent time playing cards and... more

Toga's International Cuisine

We were recommended to Toga's by the owner of a book store in town. He regularly brings authors who are visiting from out of town to toga's. It is a residential area of Port Angeles. Not a big place with maybe 8-10 tables. They had excellent food and great staff. Very accomodating when we asked for variations in the menu.... more

This is a great place to stay in Olympic National Park! We stayed in the Storm King building, which is a bit dated yet clean and comfortable. Each room has a deck with chairs over looking the lake. The main lodge has been beautifully restored and has a wonderful sun porch with lots of chairs. There are a few easy... more

WOW!! It was June and there was snow. While it took longer for us to get to the top than planned, the view, the experence was breath taking. There was a good bit of cloud cover so we did not get the view all the pictures show. We did get to see a bear cub near the visitor center. My... more

Rialto Beach

Jun 13, 2008

Its about a mile-and-a-half hike along Rialto Beach to Hole-in-the-Wall, which is a rock arch that's been carved out by the surf and only accessible at times other than high tide. The tide pools are spectacular, with an amazing variety of starfish, sea anemones, mussels, and other sea critters. There are bald eagles, sea otters, deer, etc. You can pitch... more

Quinault Rain Forest

Jun 13, 2008

My wife and I have visited Quinault Rain Forest a couple times and it ranks among our all-time favorite places. We captured some marvelous photos and video of hummingbirds working the feeders at the Lake Quinault Lodge. We enjoyed them throughout lunch at the Lodge restaurant. And the meal almost matched the excitement of watcing the birds. The photo accompanying... more

Our experience at this "restaurant" were not positive. If you stay at the nearby lodge, this is your only option for food. My negative comments are as follows: (1) Overpriced (2) Below Average food (3) Beware the claim of local or fresh fish. The food served to us was definitely previously frozen. The premium you are paying is for the... more

Although we'd heard about the road construction on the way up to Hurricane Ridge, we decided to brave it. The delays were exactly as described on the website and in their brochure -- several delays of a total of about 20 minutes. The washout of the road is pretty scary to see and it's good that they are repairing it!... more

We didn't have much time, but wanted to see the rainforest, and so drove into the Hoh park entrance with plans to take the Hall of Mosses trail. The entrance is a pretty "national park" kind of place, with several restrooms, lots of parking, camping sites, and a very nice Visitor's Center. Entrances to the trails all start there --... more

Sol Duc Hot Springs

I've been to better hot springs, definitely cleaner ones. The thing off the bat you notice is the strong (rotten egg) sulfer/sulpher smell in the hot tubs around the resort. We did not stay at the resort (because of bad reviews and I'm glad we did not!) but the lodge was shoddy/old and small. The bathrooms are very small and... more

Sol Duc Hot Springs Resort

My friend and I were on a girl's getaway weekend when we decided to stay here. I think the "resort" in the name was misleading because it was much more rustic than "resort" implies. We arrived late on a Monday and were lucky to get the last cabin available. It was clean, cozy and had a great porch with a... more

We booked a 2 room singer tavern cottage over Mother's Day Weekend and were delighted with our rooms. 3 queen beds in 2 rooms with an attached bathroom, all recently renovated and clean!! They are rustic (no tv or telephone) but you are here to sit on your porch and look out at the water. It was extremely relaxing. There... more

Toga's International Cuisine

Simply the best restaurant in Port Angeles, with Michael's and C'est si Bon not too far behind. Everything is very good, especially the rack of lamb and seafoods. Toga is a chef that understands his sauces. Tiny dining rooms, in a converted residential home, with a simple-elegant type of decor, not ostentatious. Entrees run $20 - 45, which makes it... more

I reserved three nights at the Kalaloch campground mainly because it was one of the rare opportunities to have a campsite with a gorgeous Washington ocean view. And the campground definitely delivered! You could sit on our picnic table and watch the surf. Also there were stairs very near our site that led down to the beach. However it is... more

Heart O' Hills Campground

HOH has easy access from Hwy 101 thru Port Angeles. The campground is spacious with larger than usual camp/RV sites which are relatively private; access to hiking trails; water, toilet but no shower. BUT the best thing about HOH is that it is directly on the road to Hurricane Ridge (17 miles further up the road). Note: there are no... more

My husband and I made this hike in December... not an ideal month, but we piggybacked this trip onto a Christmas visit w/ his family. Despite being in the middle of Washington's "rainy season," the weather was pretty decent. The boardwalk was still slippery at points (not frozen, just wet). A word of caution - the boardwalk is at a... more

If you have never experience the serenity and beauty of this park, you need to go. In 2 days, I experienced a temperate rain forest, rocky beaches and snowshoeing at 5000 ft. If you go make sure to get out on the hiking trails and experience some of the wonderfull wilderness. A stay at the Lake Quinault Lodge is also... more

What a lucky find! While driving through the park, we stopped in Sequim for accommodations and were really disappointed and decided to drive a little further. We happened upon the Lake Crescent Lodge, just 1 week from closing down for the season. We were offered a fantastic rate, and chose a room in the old motor lodge style. It was... more

I've never seen a beach like this. A climb over the driftwood from the easy to park lot adjacent to the beach and it's like you are in another world. The waves crash so loud that it almost leaves you impaired once you leave. The seastacks are beautiful and the driftwood is amazing. The day we visited we spent about... more

I guess if you're not a nature focused person, you wouldn't enjoy the Hoh. For me, it's the most beautiful walk in the woods that I've ever taken. We've been twice, but our most recent trip (in October) was the best. We found we had the trails almost to ourselves. Everything was drippy and green, quiet and fragrant. We took... more
