When you stay here definitely eat here! The food is wonderful and beautifully presented. The owner is extremely friendly and helpful. She speaks good English and will explain all your feast to you as she brings it. The rooms are Japanese style but do have ensuite facilities. We looked out directly toward the ferry. From here you can explore Miyajima.... more

Very expensive for an ordinary style Japanese hotel. The internet was coin operated and although it was a nice quiet island location not really worth the money. Miyajima is worth a day visit but not worth an overnight stay as it is only a short trip by rail from Hiroshima. more

Our family of 4 was very pleased with our stay at Yamaichi Bekkan. Although we did not arrive on the island until 7:30 pm, a delicious dinner was freshly prepared shortly after our arrival. We all agree that it was the best Japanese meal during our 2 week stay in Japan. The young man who prepared and served the many... more

I spent 1 night at the Grand Arimoto with my husband on May 20th 09. We caught the ferry across from the mainland which only took 10 minutes. i called them when we arrived and a bus came several minutes later to collect us. Be prepared for the slightly hairy ride to the hotel winding up mountains the narrow roads,... more

The service is impeccable. The front desk speaks English well. We were fortunately to be given a great corner room on the top floor (room 506) with views on two sides--one facing the Torri and another the mountain. The room is beautiful and clean. The bedding is comfortable. The food was wonderful and large in portion. We have a 5-yr... more

The hotel is a short walk from the main ferry station, and is close to the island’s main attractions. We were a little put off at our arrival in the early afternoon by the receptionist who told us that check in was only after 3 pm. Consequently, we had to leave our luggages at the reception desk. However, our luggages... more

Agree with much of the positive stuff other reviewers have said - we stayed in a downstairs room with a corner verandah overlooking the koi carp pool - lovely. It was pretty chilly outside - and on the verandah - in January so didn't use it as much as we'd have liked to but enjoyed it from inside through the... more

I am a single traveler and stayed here for one night during a 11 night Japan trip. I had a Japanese style room - there was a separate small sitting room, plus an entry foyer with separate toilet and bathrooms. Dinner - in your room - and breakfast in the restaurant are included. Both were delicious. I had difficulty finding... more

I have been meaning to post this review for sometime but have been torn between a reluctance to share and not knowing where to start. It is difficult to discribe an experience at an Onsen like Iwaso and at such a magical place as Miyajima.Hence, I will make it brief. Miyajima itself is an enchanting sanctuary that deserves an overnight... more

very disappointed, we went to other ryokan in Japan an it s the worst. we can t walk around very late after dinner because we have to be back at 9. the dinner is mediocre, we eat better in so much ryokan less expensive. Breakfast is continentql, no japanese. The room is clean and large but the decoration was cheap... more

My husband and I stayed for 2 full days and nights. The Japanese keiseki dinner was out of this world and the Japanese breakfast was top notch. The location could not be better and the view of the ocean from our 3rd floor, Japanese style room was the best. Though our private bathroom was clearly several years old, it was... more

We stayed at Yamaichi Bekkan for 3 nights in the middle of a trip around Japan, and I can honestly say it was the best part of the holiday. As other people have commented, the proprietor Shinko speaks great English and was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. My girlfriend is a vegetarian, and we both had a vegetarian... more

The rooms were nice. Everything else was not so good. I went with a couple of friends, and we were given a nice big room with a good view. On our second to last day, the woman who ran the place came in at 8am and told us we had to move to a different room by 10am (we managed... more

Our visit to Miyajima island Japan in December 2008 was a visit we are both glad that we did on advice from a friend who had been there 12 months earlier. If you like walking then this is the place for you and if you want to get your heart rate up then it is a winner as well. The tracks... more

In September 2007 I stayed for 1 night at Yamaichi Bekkan, a small guesthouse about 20 metres from the ferry pier on Itsukushima (Miyajima) island. I was personally greeted on arrival by Shinko Yamamatsu (who I think is the owner) in Spanish no less (Shinko noticed my Spanish name) and was shown to my Japanese style room (I'm not sure... more

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and had breakfast & dinner here for an extra 6,000 yen/person/night extra. The chef at this hotel is very good. He cooks original and interesting dishes, which were the cullinary highlight of my trip to Japan. Dinner consists of around 8 courses which was easily enough to fill me up. Dinner is... more

Miyajima is a very lovely island with limited lodging, most of which are ryokans (traditional Japanese style homes). My first, second and third choices were all booked so I tried this one - Mizuha-so. It is quite far from the pier - about a 15-20 min walk and there are no signs on it to tell you that it's the... more

Miyajima (means "shrine island") is a not to miss site (Unesco World Heritage rated) when staying in Hiroshima. It is most famous for the Itsukushima Shrine (dates from the 12th century), and its large red wooden Torii (gate) that stands in the ocean during high tide. It's rated in the top 3 scenic sites in Japan. Miyajima is easy to... more

We had planned our arrival from Kobe by Shinkansen to Hiroshima and then, ferry to Miyajima around 2.30pm, just so that we would be able to check into the ryokan without delay. Upon arrival at the Miyajima jetty, we approached the tourist office to call Iwaso, and after a mere 5 minutes wait, the hotel's van was there for our... more
