About Virgin Atlantic Airways

Virgin Atlantic Airways is headquartered near the London-Gatwick airport in Crawley, England, and has its main bases at London-Heathrow and London-Gatwick. Its first scheduled flight was in 1984 between Gatwick and Newark, and it now serves over two dozen locations in North America, the Caribbean, Africa, Asia and Australia. Virgin Atlantic is owned 51% by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group and 49% by Singapore Airlines. The airline is fairly unique in operating only long-haul international flights with no domestic or intra-Europe servive. Virgin Atlantic is also known for its flamboyant brand marketing, as well as the publicity stunts associated with its founder, Sir Richard Branson.

Class of Service

Virgin Atlantic provides three classes of service on most flights.

  • Upper Class

Passengers in Upper Class enjoy a fully lie-flat seat, laptop power access, a multi-directional 10.4" video screen, on-demand complimentary meals, a bar area and an amenity kit. Every seat has aisle access and on select overnight flights, a section of the cabin is reserved for those who want to sleep through the flight. Upper Class passengers departing London Heathrow are treated to a separate and private check-in area and security clearance exclusive to Virgin's Upper Class passengers. Additionally, full-fare passengers may request a chauffeured limousine service on both departure and arrival. Finally, departing passengers are given access to the Virgin Clubhouse as well as the Revivals lounge on arrival, where available.

  • Premium Economy

Premium economy passengers enjoy additional legroom, a complimentary meal and preflight drink, seat-back entertainment and priority boarding and baggage delivery.

  • Economy

Economy class passengers enjoy complimentary meal and beverage service and seat-back entertainment. Exit row seats and Extra Legroom Seats are available for purchase via their call center if you booked your ticket directly with Virgin, or at the airport on the day of departure if you booked via a travel agent or another airline.

Food and Drink

Virgin Atlantic offers complimentary meal and bar service on all of its flights in all cabins. They also offer a unique experience that is a nod to the first class lounges that were onboard many Boeing 747 aircraft in the 1970s and 1980s: a full bar (with stools) exclusively for Upper Class passengers.

All passengers enjoy personal, seat-back entertainment featuring movies, television programming and games. Additionally, passengers have access to a CD jukebox with over 100 albums.

In-Flight Technology

EmPower power outlets are available in Upper Class on all aircraft and in Premium Economy on the majority of flights out of London Heathrow. Passengers will need an adapter in order to plug in their laptops.
