About Volare Airlines

Virgin Australia Airlines is headquartered in Brisbane and began service in 2000 as Virgin Blue. In May 2011, Virgin Australia was launched as the new brand for the airlines V Australia and Virgin Blue. Its hubs and focus cities are Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, Christchurch, Adelaide, Canberra, Perth, Hobart Townsville and the Gold Coast Airport near Bilinga, Australia. Virgin Australia provides service to more than 30 destinations in Australia, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Asia and the Pacific. Virgin Australia was founded by Sir Richard Branson of Virgin Group fame and former Virgin Blue CEO Brett Godfrey.

Class of Service

Virgin Australia provides up to three classes of service on certain flights.

Business Class

Business Class passengers enjoy dedicated check-in, priority baggage handling, access to the lounges of Virgin Australia and select partners and priority boarding. On-board, passengers enjoy complimentary food and beverage service and entertainment systems that vary depending on the aircraft type. On international long haul flights, Business Class passengers enjoy amenity kits, welcome drinks and fully lie-flat seats, and they enjoy recliner seats on other routes. Limousine service to and from the airport is available to full fare Business Class passengers traveling on international long haul flights.

Premium Economy

Premium Economy is available on Virgin Australia's international short haul and international long haul routes. Premium Economy passengers enjoy dedicated check-in, access to the Virgin Australia lounge on select flights, amenity kits, complimentary food and beverage service and entertainment systems that vary depending on the aircraft type.

Economy

On international long haul flights, Economy passengers enjoy complimentary meal and beverage service and entertainment systems with audio and video on demand.

Food and Drink

On international long haul routes, all passengers enjoy complimentary meal and beverage service. Business Class passengers also have access to the Business Class bar on-board.

On domestic Australian flights and short haul international routes, complimentary meal or snack service is provided to Business Class and Premium Economy Class passengers and to passengers traveling on Flexi fare tickets. Economy passengers traveling on Saver fare class tickets can purchase snacks, meals and beverages on-board.

Entertainment

On Virgin Australia's international long haul flights, all passengers enjoy entertainment systems with audio and video on demand, featuring movie, television, music and games.

Virgin Australia's A330s have seat-back entertainment for all passengers, featuring 6 channels of movies, 9 channels of TV programming, music videos and audio entertainment.

The 737 aircraft in Virgin Australia's fleet, which are primarily used on domestic routes, have live2air, which streams 24 live FOXTEL/AUSTAR channels. Depending on the flight, live2air may be complimentary or it may be for purchase. On flights longer than 2 hours, pay-per-view movies are also available.

On select aircraft providing Australian domestic and international short haul services, passengers can rent portable media players called, digEplayers, which are pre-loaded with movies, TV shows, games, podcasts and music. All Premium Economy and Business Class passengers will be offered complimentary use of a digEplayer if seatback in-flight entertainment is not available on their flight.

In-Flight Technology

Business Class and Premium Economy passengers traveling on Virgin Australia's international long haul flights have in-seat 110V AC power outlets. Cabin crew can assist Economy passengers with charging their devices. In-seat USB ports are available to charge devices at all seats on international long haul routes.

The A330s in Virgin Australia's fleet feature two classes of service, Business Class and Economy.
B737-700 and -800
Virgin Australia operates more than 50 737s, and they generally offer two classes of service. In addition to Economy, some 737s feature Business Class, while others have Premium Economy.
B777-300ER
There are approximately 5 777s in Virgin Australia's fleet, and they are used on international long haul routes and can seat up to 361 passengers in a three-class configuration.
E190
Virgin Australia's fleet includes more than 15 E190s, which can seat up to 100 passengers in a two-class configuration.
ATR 72-500
Virgin Australia's ATR 72s can seat 68 passengers in a single-class configuration.

  • You can earn Velocity Points by flying Virgin Australia or one of Virgin Australia's partner airlines.
  • Velocity Points can also be accrued by purchasing products or services from numerous participating hotel, car and retail partners and by using an affiliated credit card.
  • Velocity Points can be redeemed for travel and other awards.
  • Velocity Points do not expire.
  • Membership levels are Silver, Gold and Platinum. Silver status is attained by accruing 250 status points and 2 eligible sectors on qualifying flights in a 12-month period. Gold status is attained by accruing 500 status points and 4 eligible sectors on qualifying flights in a 12-month period. Platinum status is attained by accruing 1,000 status points and 8 eligible sectors on qualifying flights in a 12-month period.
    • Perks for Silver, Gold and Platinum members include lounge access and advance seat selection. Gold and Platinum members also enjoy priority on the wait list.
